Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Managing Director of Academics will provide instructional leadership in curriculum, assessment, and professional development for all K-12 KIPP Schools and is responsible for driving the overall direction and strategy for all KIPP Capital instructional and cultural programming.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Managerial Leadership and Team Development
- Manages the Senior Director of K-8 Academics, Director of HS Curriculum and Assessment, Director of Special Education, and future roles if applicable.
- Serves as a thought partner to direct reports as they lead their respective teams; coaches and supports direct reports to address their key roles and responsibilities.
- Works in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer, Managing Directors of Schools, and school-based teams to provide exceptional instructional models to principals and schools.
Curricula & Assessment Strategy, Alignment, and Implementation
- Collaboration with schools to build world-class curricular and assessment strategies designed to prepare students for and measure student progress toward college readiness.
- Professionally develops and supports schools in implementing KIPP Capital Region curricula and leads a team responsible for implementing curricula, including developing scope and sequences, pacing calendars, data days, and all other enabling systems required for faithful implementation.
- Helps develop an instructional model that meets students where they are and accelerates their learning to grade-level goals
Data Use, Data Reporting & Analysis
- Works closely with the Managing Director of Data to build and maintain data reports and visualizations to display Teaching & Learning results and key performance metrics.
- Support school-based Managing Directors of Schools and School Leaders by utilizing data tools and reports for continuous improvement.
- Analyze school performance management data to identify gaps in school design and make necessary adjustments for successful outcomes and compliance.
Leadership Strategy
- Participates in the KIPP Capital academic leadership team that oversees the strategy for all KIPP Capital programming.
- Works with KIPP Capital academic leadership to develop a vision and comprehensive long-term plan for the design of integrated, scaffolded K-12 schools
- Recommends systemwide goals to the KIPP Capital Chief Academic Officer; monitors and reports to the Chief Academic Officer on the progress toward achieving those goals.

- Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

- Please note: frequent travel to different KIPP Capital Region schools is required
- Pass a Criminal Background Check
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University is required.
- 7+ years of experience as a School or Regional Leader in a high-performing school.
- Proven outstanding leadership and management skills, particularly in building teams, working through others, promoting collaboration, managing conflict, goal setting, and holding people accountable.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated success in building a program, department or organization.
- Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $128,300 to $141,800 for this exempt role.
Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our grade salary scale at point of hire.
