In the 2023-24 school year, the KIPP Jacksonville region will be comprised of four schools educating more than 2,500 students, kindergarten through eleventh grade in the North and West sides of Jacksonville, Florida: 

  • KIPP Impact Academy: Kindergarten - 3nd grade, 6th - 8th grade 

  • KIPP VOICE Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade 

  • KIPP Bessie Coleman Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade 

  • KIPP Bold City High School: 9th - 11th grade

For the current school year, teachers at KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools work the following hours Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Hours for teachers and students may vary slightly by school.

  • K-8 Staff: 7:30am - 4:30pm K-8 Students: 8:00am - 3:30pm, Wednesday K-8 dismissal is at 1:30pm 

  • High School Staff: 6:45am - 3:45pm, High School Students: 7:15am - 2:30pm, Wednesday High School dismissal is at 12:30pm. 

Every Wednesday is a student early release day, which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development and content team meetings. *This doesn’t include Wellness Wednesdays when all staff leave at student dismissal.

Job Description

This position will be based in our regional offices in Jacksonville, FL. The position is face-to-face. This role would ideally start immediately. 

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for many aspects of the accounting team.  General Accounting consists of Fixed Assets, payroll, debt, adjusting entries, monthly closes, and miscellaneous accounting functions.  Will prepare ad hoc financial reports out of Sage Intacct (accounting system). Further, the individual is expected to improve processes by utilizing technology (Excel, VBA, etc.). The individual will also be assigned technical accounting duties such as technical accounting research, therefore knowledge of US GAAP and the ability to research and understand ASC standards is a must. Additionally, it is important that the Senior Staff Accountant has developed leadership skills and the ability to influence and take the initiative on projects. The role is a full-time role that reports to the Controller on the shared services team and is part of the larger operations team that supports schools. As a member of the shared services team, it is also critical that the Senior Staff Accountant is well-aligned with:

This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but can vary based on season.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily review of Construction, Prepaid, and PP&E Invoices, checking for coding and soundness
  • Payroll entries for month end close 
  • Prepaid entries for month end close
  • Maintain and prepare monthly and annual debt payments
  • All bank account reconciliations
  • Review and approve adjusting entries
  • Develop relationships and have strong customer service skills 
  • Perform monthly soft and hard close procedures and schedules
  • Support preparation of month and year end PBC schedules
  • All other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION

Our current compensation and benefits structure is very competitive and is commensurate with experience. 

  • The starting salary range for this position is:  $57,000 - $59,000

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3+ years of work experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Ability to understand databases and analyze data
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Sweet
  • Strong understanding of Google Sheets and the Google Workspace
  • Exceptional analytic, strategic, and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage a variety of tasks. 
  • Results-oriented, hands-on team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
  • Strategic Mindset, aptitude for conflict, and strong delegation ability as this position will manage a staff accountants
  • Passing a background check, as required by law

 Highly Preferred Qualifications

  • Audit experience
  • Sage Intacct
  • Understanding of the State of Florida school-based accounting (Redbook)
  • Strong understanding of macros and VBA a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting or a related field
