Job Description

Position Overview 

Learning Extension Program Instructors (LEPIs) support robust learning and enrichment opportunities for high school students at KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy (KDCA) as they transition back to full-time, in-person learning this school year and tackle unfinished learning in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.  

LEPIs have three primary responsibilities: 1) LEPIs provide small group (~2-4 students) math tutoring to 9th grade students during the school day and after school. 2) LEPIs provide in-class academic assistance to students to support Teacher-led math instruction and 3) LEPIs support after school enrichment programming by providing general supervision of students and engaging a subset of students in a specific enrichment topic (examples include art, basketball, drama, etc.)  

LEPIs are part-time employees who dedicate approximately 23 hours per week (Monday through Thursday, 11:00-4:45), and they report directly to the Learning Extension Program Manager.  

Key Responsibilities
High-Impact Tutoring 

  • Provide high quality math tutoring to a subset of 9th graders during the school day in small groups 

  • Design tutoring lessons and materials aligned to specific learning needs 

  • Monitor and track student progress, including entering assessment and other learning data 

In-class Academic Support 

  • Assist students across grade bands with classroom assignments or difficult math concepts 

  • Work with small groups of students to reinforce the learning process  

  • Identify students that may benefit from receiving tutoring services 

After School Program Support 

  • Create a safe, joyful, and enriching after school experience through effective supervision 

  • Plan and facilitate an enrichment course for students (e.g., art, basketball, drama, etc.) 

  • Maintain accurate attendance records  

  • Communicate with parents and families as needed 

  • Other relevant responsibilities as assigned  

Qualifications

Qualifications & Credentials 

  • Love and see the high potential of all children 

  • Passion for seeing students learn and grow, and commitment to supporting students in tackling unfinished learning 

  • High school diploma required (some college experience preferred) 

  • Two or more years in school or youth-centered settings strongly preferred, either as a classroom teacher, instructional staff member, or before/after school personnel 

  • Comfort and confidence with Algebra and pre-Algebra topics 

  • Supremely organized and flexible (day to day operations may change) 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills  

  • Fluency with Google Suite 

  • Complete all required criminal and child abuse background checks: 

  • PA State Police Clearance 

  • PA Child Abuse Clearance 

  • Cogent Federal Fingerprinting 

Additional Information

Compensation  

  • LEPIs are compensated at $18.00 to $20.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
