SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION The Painter II is responsible for operating electrostatic powder coating equipment to apply powder paint to metal products on a conveyorized paint line. Assists in with the hanging and removing components from the paint conveyor line and the maintenance and cleanup of spray equipment and work area. Work with Painter III and team lead employees to acquire skills required for promotion to Painter III level. Must demonstrate the ability to complete and understand direction from team leads and other Painter III employees. Specifically, trains on other related departmental equipment and/or processes to achieve multiple operator skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Complies with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures, and housekeeping standards. Prepare parts for coating. Follow all principles and practices of powder coating application. Operate all coating equipment including guns, hoppers, and booth collection systems. Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects. Bake parts at appropriate temperatures within time limitations. Ensure that all components are produced/coated efficiently and are consistent with company-established goals for quality and customer order on-time performance. Ensure quality standards and processes are used throughout the facility. Load and unload parts or products onto fixtures. Good knowledge of the mechanics and repair of painting equipment. Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures. Ensures product is not moved to the next operation until the required inspection and tests are complete. Must be proficient in silk-screening (enamel and epoxy). Able to perform manual color changes, perform general maintenance on equipment, adjust and maintain equipment, Spray to required mill thickness, demonstrate knowledge of equipment, and determine masking and paint coverage requirements from prints, routings, and work instructions. Keep records of powder used. Check masking before paint. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A high school diploma, GED, or equivalency. Basic math and communication skills required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift, carry, push, pull, grip, and grasp up to 35 lbs. Employees also frequently bend, twist, and reach and may stand and/or walk up to 8-10 hours per day. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Job consists of working in a manufacturing facility. Job could consist of making changes by hand or by running machinery equipment. Will receive objects or parts on conveyer belt, be responsible for your portion of the job, and then pass materials down conveyer belt or to next worker.
