Job Description

The primary objective of the Speech Language Pathologist position is to provide a comprehensive range of services to students with communication problems. This includes students whose primary disability is speech-language impairment as well as those with other primary disabilities who have communication needs.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in students. It also involves overseeing case management, ensuring due process compliance, conducting program data collection, and handling third-party billing and funding reports.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-referral consultations to general and special education teachers
  • Oversee case management for students with speech-language impairments
  • Ensure due process compliance, conduct program data collection, and handle third-party billing and funding reports
  • Work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in students
  • Complete evaluations that consist of comprehensive initial and reevaluations for all types of communication disabilities
  • Oversee standard-referred IEPs and IIIPs (intervention that supports literacy and other standards)
  • Perform direct intervention services to students in the least restrictive environment (include classroom-based service)
  • Perform indirect intervention and consultative services to teams, teachers, and parents
  • Promote and support the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field
  • Driver's license
  • Minnesota teaching license in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Deep understanding of district policies
  • Knowledge of speech-language development tools and resources
  • Principles and ethical standards of speech-language pathology
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • Ability to evaluate speech levels and abilities
  • Ability to create individualized treatment plans
  • Ability to interpret statutes and regulations
  • Ability to assess and prioritize tasks
  • Proficiency in using computer applications related to the work
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
