Your Career

The Palo Alto Networks TechDocs team directly helps our customers improve their security posture to best protect against cyber threats. As a part of the R&D organization, we work hands-on with products throughout the development cycle to serve as the voice of our users and to identify best practice workflows. In this role specifically, you’ll get to focus on helping companies secure their remote workforces. You’ll collaborate with product management, engineering, UX, and QA teams as you write content that helps users understand the risks their organizations face, and how secure their employees are, no matter where they are.

Your Impact

  • Strategic Content Development
    • Develop documentation that is engaging, relevant, and tailored to address specific customer needs and challenges
    • Ensure content distinguishes between conceptual and task-based information
    • Ensure all documentation is intuitive, easy to navigate, and kept current, incorporating a variety of formats (e.g., interactive guides, videos) to appeal to different customer preferences
    • Proactively analyze user feedback and the documentation's structure to propose enhancements, focusing on solving customer problems with context-rich, easily searchable content that stands on its own
  • Comprehensive and Diverse Documentation Responsibilities 
    • What’s New - Craft descriptions for new features and enhancements
    • Release Notes - Ensure release notes include feature information for behavior changes, limitations, and other updates to provide users and stakeholders with critical product information
    • Administration Guides - Create in-depth admin guides for system administrators, detailing configuration, maintenance, and optimization processes for efficient platform management
    • Produce a broad array of essential documentation, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accessibility of the IoT Security product information
  • Technical Leadership and Collaboration Excellence
    • Uphold the highest standards of documentation accuracy, readability, and SEO optimization
    • Demonstrate mastery of documentation tools and processes, ensuring adherence to SEO, readability, and technical precision best practices
    • Lead the documentation strategy, contributing to product design and user experience with insightful content solutions
    • Collaborate effectively with product management, engineering, and UX teams, aligning documentation with product features and customer expectations
    • Manage complex documentation projects from start to finish, ensuring excellence, timeliness, and compliance with company standards
    • Provide mentorship to other writers, guiding them in developing high-quality content and taking on complex writing assignments such as use cases, best practices, integrations, deployments, and new product introductions
  • Data-Driven Engagement
    • Develop and implement strategies to measure and improve user engagement with the documentation 
    • Use analytics tools (e.g., Pendo, Google Analytics, GetFeedback) to understand user interactions and feedback, driving continuous content optimization
    • Actively respond to and prioritize feedback from various channels, collaborating with customer support to address product pain points in documentation
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Continually enhance documentation quality and relevance
    • Optimize content for SEO, improving titles and anticipating user questions to enhance searchability and findability from external search engines
    • Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices to beat the competition 
    • Explore and adopt cutting-edge tools and methodologies to keep our product documentation at the forefront of the industry - such as AI
  • Accountability and Ownership
    • Take full ownership of obtaining the information necessary for comprehensive and accurate documentation - Be resourceful in consulting with QA, product line managers, developers, or searching through Google Drive, Confluence, and Jira - You are the primary individual responsible for securing the needed information
    • Ensure completeness by providing all necessary details that customers require, even if not explicitly mentioned by reviewers - This includes checking for changes in default behavior, upgrade/downgrade considerations, port numbers, roles, and best practices - It's your responsibility to uncover and document these details proactively
    • Provide review drafts early and incorporate feedback efficiently, adhering to timelines for publishing
    • Use Git workflows for content versioning, ensuring technical content remains up-to-date and version-controlled

Qualifications

Your Experience 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical documentation, with a proven ability to distill complex information into clear, concise text
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines independently
  • Experience in leading multi-writer projects/releases and acting as a feature owner for complex content requirements
  • Expertise in documentation tools (e.g., Oxygen, Git, GitLab, Jira, Confluence) and authoring languages (e.g., DITA/XML)
  • Deep knowledge of network security technologies (e.g., networking, IoT device management, security policies)
  • A strong commitment to enhancing documentation quality and user experience, paired with excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $119,000/yr to $192,500/yr.
