Senior Director, Software Engineering - Card Core

The Card Technology division at Capital One is embarking on an exciting journey to transform our business by building top-notch technology platforms that surpass expectations for both our internal and external customers. As a Senior Director of Software Engineering, your role will involve working with senior Technology and Business Executives to understand their vision and translate it into an execution strategy. You will lead software engineering teams responsible for designing and delivering high-quality software for critical business features, utilizing the latest technology standards and AWS.

Your responsibilities also include driving technology strategy and adoption, with a focus on simplicity, digital technologies, cloud hosting, and open source software. You will collaborate with stakeholders to make important technology investment decisions, provide thought leadership in technology, and raise the talent bar by recruiting and hiring exceptional engineering talent. Your work will involve working closely with product owners to articulate the benefits of proposed solutions, influence the technical roadmap, and help prioritize work.

What you will need to bring for this position:

• Experience in building and leading a large team to rapidly deliver platform capabilities.
• Knowledge of machine learning related to problem-solving such as entity resolution and spend patterns of clients.
• Experience in delivering software with many human operational touchpoints.
• Strong data skills to lead conversations about system of record and data timing.
• A history of embracing and incubating emerging technology and open source products.
• Recruiting, motivating, mentoring, and leading the best application engineering talent.
• A customer-first attitude and innovative thinking with a passion for problem-solving.
• An ability to provide a logical framework to support conclusions and ideas.
• A great attitude, team player, and energy amplifier who is adaptable to changing priorities and technologies.
• An ability to effectively communicate and visualize ideas and concepts to internal leaders, partners, and customers.
• An understanding of leading a team in an Agile environment.
• Experience in integrating internally-built and vendor applications.
• Experience leading DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a large technical team and be a "leader of leaders".
• Set and own goals, working backwards from a vision and building a delivery plan.
• Lead the definition of new capabilities, guiding the technical architecture and requirements.
• Partner with business leaders to shape and prioritize initiatives.
• Manage stakeholder expectations regarding progress towards delivery.
• Demonstrate strong technical expertise, representing the architecture, identifying issues, and asking the right questions.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 9 years of experience in software development.
• At least 7 years of people management experience.
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree.
• 2+ years of experience with data streaming.
• 2+ years of experience with Event-Driven Architecture.
• 1+ years of experience building and deploying serverless applications.
