Senior Director, Software Engineering - Card Core Location: McLean, Virginia, United States About the Role: The Card Technology division at Capital One is embarking on an exciting journey to revolutionize our business by creating cutting-edge technology platforms that surpass expectations for both our internal and external customers. As a Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will work closely with senior Technology and Business Executives to understand their vision and translate it into executable strategies. You will lead software engineering teams responsible for designing and delivering high-quality software for critical business features, leveraging the latest technology standards and AWS. In this role, you will drive technology strategy and adoption, focusing on simplicity, digital technologies, cloud hosting, and open source software. You will collaborate with stakeholders to make important technology investment decisions. Key Responsibilities: - Lead and inspire a large software engineering team, acting as a "leader of leaders" - Establish and own goals for the team and develop delivery plans - Lead the definition of new capabilities and guide technical architecture to deliver functions spanning people, process, and technology - Collaborate with Business Leaders to shape and prioritize initiatives - Manage stakeholder expectations related to progress and delivery - Use your strong technical expertise to dive deep into technology, represent architecture, and identify issues What You'll Need: - Experience leading large teams and rapidly delivering platform capabilities - Knowledge of machine learning for solving problems such as entity resolution and client spend patterns - Experience delivering software with significant human operational touchpoints - Strong data skills for system of record conversations and data timing - History of embracing emerging technology and open source products - Ability to recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead top application engineering talent - Customer-centric attitude and a passion for problem-solving - Ability to provide logical frameworks to support conclusions and ideas - Great attitude, teamwork skills, and energy amplification abilities - Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and technologies - Strong communication skills to effectively convey ideas to internal leaders, partners, and customers - Understanding of leading a team in an Agile environment - Familiarity with integrating internally built and vendor applications - Experience leading DevOps or Site reliability engineering teams Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree - At least 9 years of experience in software development - At least 7 years of people management experience - At least 2 years of experience with public cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure) Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree - 2+ years of experience with data streaming - 2+ years of experience with Event-Driven Architecture - 1+ years of experience building and deploying serverless applications At Capital One, we are dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
