The Opportunity

This job is for the position of Director, Life Claims and Investigations. You will report to the Chief Claims and Fraud Officer for Life Company. The focus of our department is to provide compassionate assistance to members who have lost a loved one. We aim to process claims efficiently, minimize turnaround time, meet service level targets, and ensure member satisfaction.

As the Director, you will be responsible for managing Life, Annuity & Health claims and fraud investigations. This includes overseeing the Life Special Investigation Unit (SIU) staff, setting investigative priorities, balancing workloads, developing staffing strategies, and evaluating operational results. You will also build and maintain relationships with industry, law enforcement, and business partners.

We offer a flexible work environment, requiring you to be in the office four days a week. This position can be based in San Antonio, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, Tampa, FL, or Phoenix, AZ, with San Antonio being the preferred location. Relocation assistance is available if needed.

What You'll Do
  • Guide staff in understanding procedures, guidelines, and training materials.
  • Oversee decisions made within the claims and benefits process.
  • Approve claims within your assigned authority limit.
  • Lead the claim investigation team and ensure progress towards organizational objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans/policies for Claims Security.
  • Identify emerging fraud trends and implement fraud investigation programs.
  • Communicate and provide training support for new programs and processes.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to improve claims and fraud investigation functions.
  • Manage hiring, employee development, coaching, and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure effective risk management and compliance with policies and procedures.
What You Have
  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of relevant experience (12 years without a degree).
  • 8 years of relevant business experience, including 3 years in Claims and/or Insurance Fraud.
  • 3 years of direct team leadership or management experience.
What Sets You Apart
  • US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
  • 5 or more years of Life Insurance and/or annuity claims experience.
  • 3 or more years of Life Insurance and/or annuity claims management and/or deep operational experience.
  • Familiarity with various claims processing procedures and their impact on operations.
  • Past approval authority of $500,000 or more in handling life and/or annuity claims.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering operational results.

Compensation: USAA ensures competitive salaries based on market data and your experience. The actual salary may vary depending on the location. The salary range for this position is $115,240 - $213,900.

Employees may also be eligible for pay incentives based on corporate and individual performance, determined by the USAA Board of Directors.
