About the Position: School Health Medical Assistant Cuyahoga Falls School District Monday-Friday While school is in session Summary: The role of Medical Assistant in School Health provides clinical and administrative support to patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse. Responsibilities: 1. Actively engage with patients and families of Akron Children’s Hospitals. 2. Prepare patients for examination, take and record vital signs, perform phlebotomy as needed, and administer medications as directed by Providers following policy and procedure. 3. Collect data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse. 4. Collect, process, and submit laboratory specimens according to policy and procedure. 5. Communicate patient findings and relevant information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse using appropriate communication/documentation methods. 6. Accurately and promptly document care within the school medical record. 7. Perform department-specific clinical duties such as point-of-care testing, hearing and vision screenings, and other procedures. 8. Perform routine tasks and general office duties, such as faxing, copying, and filing, as needed. 9. Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms. 10. Develop and maintain positive relationships with patients/students, families, school personnel, and colleagues. 11. Complete all assigned tasks during scheduled working hours. 12. Follow safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, families, and staff. 13. Perform any other duties as assigned. Other Information: Technical Expertise 1. Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology is required. 2. Experience working in a healthcare environment is preferred. 3. Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required. 4. Experience working with electronic medical records (such as EPIC) or similar software is preferred. Education and Experience 1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required. 2. Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Certificate Program (MA), EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required. Candidates hired into School Health prior to March 2023 without completing one of these programs will receive credit for their relevant experience. 3. Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA or R.M.A.). 4. No experience required. 5. No supervisory experience required.
