Job Opportunity: Senior Manager - Ontology and Data Modeling

About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Manager of Ontology and Data Modeling to join our team and contribute to Capital One's Data Strategy. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise ontologies to support our business objectives.
As the Senior Manager of Ontology and Data Modeling, you will collaborate with the Retail Bank Product team to create domain ontologies for various initiatives. You will work closely with Technology, Machine Learning, and other teams to integrate semantic technology into our products and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead data standardization and semantics discovery efforts, turning insights into actionable strategies to guide the team and engage stakeholders.
- Develop and prioritize the long-term roadmap for ontology and data modeling, ensuring alignment with business outcomes and resource allocation.
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for ontology and data modeling, regularly measuring and tracking progress to refine strategies.
- Understand how ontology and data models fit into the larger business ecosystem, anticipating impacts from other areas.
- Collaborate with tech leadership and architecture to make informed technical decisions that align with ontology and data modeling goals.
- Advocate for the value of ontologies, semantics, and data standardization efforts, building relationships and influencing prioritization across teams.
- Attract and retain top talent for ontology and data modeling, fostering their growth and development.
- Contribute to data integration and mapping efforts to harmonize data with upper and domain ontologies.
- Stay informed about competitor and industry developments related to ontology, knowledge organization, data modeling, and machine learning.
- Adhere to W3C standards for ontologies, including RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS, and SHACL.
- Champion standards and guidelines for ontology, data modeling, semantics, and data standardization at Capital One.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics, or computational linguistics.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in a metadata field, such as ontology, taxonomy, semantics, or computational linguistics.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience or training in using W3C standards like RDF, RDFS, OWL, and SKOS.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience or training in ontology and linked data tools like Protégé, TopQuadrant, or similar.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience or training with SQL or SPARQL.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics, or computational linguistics.
- Experience translating business strategy into enterprise semantic solutions.
- Familiarity with graph databases and technologies.
- Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R.
- Familiarity with data formats like JSON, OpenAPI/YAML, and AVRO.
- Familiarity with Agile principles and methodologies.
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services.
- Detail-oriented with problem-solving abilities.
- Strong reading, writing, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present ideas confidently.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
Salary:
The salary range for the Senior Manager position in McLean, Virginia is $195,200 to $222,800 annually. Please note that salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on hours worked.
