The Cardiovascular Intervention Center is an important part of the Smidt Heart Institute and performs over 8,000 procedures each year. Our department serves patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. In our twelve-laboratory facility, we conduct a wide range of procedures to diagnose and treat issues related to heart health.

As a Clinical Nurse III, you will be responsible for delivering excellent patient care and applying your nursing skills in a fast-paced environment, specifically in the Cardiac Catheterization procedure rooms. You will also be cross-trained to perform various tasks related to invasive procedures for patients of all ages. This role involves caring for cardiac patients from admission to discharge, including extended hours in a procedure setting with x-ray exposure. You will also be expected to provide on-call coverage for emergency procedures during evenings, nights, and weekends, with a maximum response time of 30 minutes.

This position follows a schedule of three 12-hour shifts per week, with a 4-day week every 12 weeks to make it a full-time position. Additionally, you will be on-call for nights and weekends approximately nine times during a six-week period. If you live more than 30 minutes away from the facility, we will provide accommodation in a local hotel during on-call shifts to ensure prompt availability during emergencies.

Educational Requirements:

• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Licenses:

• Required: Valid California RN License
• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACSL)
• Preferred: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CVRN), or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) (Candidates must commit to obtaining a specialty certification within one year of hire to maintain CN III status)

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of Acute Care Nursing experience required
• Strongly recommended: Minimum 1 year of Critical Care experience
• Preferred for CN II or III qualification: Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Lab/EP experience in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions with all patient populations
• Minimum 2 years of appropriate Cath Lab/EP experience required for CN III qualification, otherwise will be considered CN II
• Meets clinical criteria and protocol for Clinical Nurse III (minimum 3-5 years RN experience)
• Strongly recommended: Critical Care or Emergency Department experience

Physical Demands:

• The ability to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions, including lifting up to 50 lbs and transporting patients and equipment
• Able to stand for prolonged periods of time wearing lead aprons weighing 15-20 lbs
• Must have the ability to be on-call for nights and weekends approximately nine times during every six-week period
