Our Cardiovascular Intervention Center, part of the Smidt Heart Institute, performs over 8,000 procedures annually and serves patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. We specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart muscle function, and heart valve dysfunction.

As a Clinical Nurse III, you will be responsible for delivering patient care in a fast-paced environment, specifically in our Cardiac Catheterization procedure rooms. You will receive cross-training to assist with invasive procedures for patients of all ages. Your role will involve caring for cardiac patients from admission to discharge, including spending extended periods in the procedure setting with exposure to x-rays. You will also be on-call for emergency procedures during evenings, nights, and weekends, with a maximum response time of 30 minutes.

This position requires working three 12-hour shifts per week, with one 4-day week out of every 12 weeks to maintain a full-time schedule. Additionally, approximately nine times during a six-week period, you will be on-call during nights and weekends. For employees who live more than 30 minutes from the facility, accommodations will be provided in a local hotel to ensure availability during emergencies.

Educational Requirements:

• Preference given to candidates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Licenses:

• Must have a valid California RN License
• BLS and ACSL required
• Preference given to those with certifications such as CCRN, CVRN, or RCIS (Candidates must commit to obtaining a specialty certification within one year of hire to maintain CN III status)

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of Acute Care Nursing experience required
• Strongly recommended to have at least 1 year of Critical Care experience
• Preference given to those with Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Lab/EP experience in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for all patient populations
• Minimum 2 years of appropriate Cath Lab/EP experience required for CN III qualification, otherwise considered CN II
• Must meet clinical criteria and protocol for Clinical Nurse III (minimum 3-5 years of RN experience)

Physical Demands:

• Must have the physical ability and perceptual acuity to perform all direct and indirect patient care functions
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and transport patients and equipment
• Able to stand for prolonged periods of time wearing lead aprons weighing 15-20 lbs
• Must be able to be on-call approximately 9 times during every six-week period, including nights and weekends
