The Smidt Heart Institute is a renowned center of excellence, with a team of experts who are setting the standard for cardiovascular care in the United States.

What will you be doing in this role?

As a Pediatric/Congenital Sonographer, your role will involve assisting in echocardiograms for pediatric and adult congenital cardiac patients in the Non-Invasive Cardiac Laboratory (Echo). You may also have the opportunity to work in the fetal echocardiography laboratory. Your responsibilities will include:

• Creating a safe and supportive environment for patient care.
• Performing transthoracic echocardiograms using state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment to diagnose and manage cardiac conditions, under the guidance of cardiologists.
• Assisting cardiologists in acquiring various types of echocardiograms, such as transesophageal, intracardiac, and epicardial echocardiograms.
• Demonstrating proficiency in performing procedures and using ultrasound equipment and computers. Continuing education and staying updated on the latest congenital protocols and workflows.
• Participating in departmental and performance improvement activities, mentoring other staff, and collecting/documenting data to meet clinical, financial, and regulatory requirements.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of a 2-year accredited ultrasound school preferred

License/Certification/Registration:

• Current RDCS certification in Pediatric and/or Adult echocardiography preferred
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required

Experience:

• At least 3 years of experience as a Sonographer required
• At least 1 year of experience as a full-time pediatric sonographer OR completion of a formal pediatric/congenital sonographer training program preferred
• Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, both verbally and in writing.
• Availability for on-call activities, 24 hours a day as scheduled.
• Commitment to continuous learning and following congenital protocols and workflows to maintain high standards of patient care.
