**Job Title: Distinguished Engineer - Data Architecture** **Location: McLean, Virginia, United States of America** **About the Role** Join our teams in the Enterprise Data & Machine Learning group and help us build a highly scalable, well-governed data ecosystem. This ecosystem will scale across thousands of AWS accounts, tens of thousands of database instances, and millions of files stored across the enterprise. You will also have the opportunity to shape the future of a platform that exchanges terabytes of data daily between Capital One and our partners. As a Distinguished Engineer, you will play a vital role as a deep technical expert and thought leader. You will help accelerate the adoption of the best engineering practices while staying up-to-date with industry innovations. In addition, you will collaborate on the toughest issues at Capital One to deliver solutions that directly impact the lives of our customers and associates. You will be a mentor and role model, coaching and strengthening the technical expertise of our engineering and product community. Moreover, you will act as an evangelist, both internally and externally, to promote the Distinguished Engineering community and be a go-to resource for technology-related capabilities. **Responsibilities** - Deep technical expertise in engineering practices and industry trends - Collaborate on tough business issues that impact customers and associates - Coach and mentor the technical expertise of the engineering and product community - Act as an evangelist to drive awareness and adoption of modern technologies - Foster an inclusive environment for all ideas to be heard and championed - Promote a culture of engineering excellence and reuse of solutions - Effectively communicate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization - Serve as a trusted advisor for specific technology domains - Play a leading role in recruiting and mentoring Tech talent **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor's Degree - At least 7 years of experience in Data Architecture or Enterprise Architecture - At least 5 years of experience in design patterns - At least 5 years of experience with AWS cloud - At least 3 years of experience building data products - At least 3 years of experience with enterprise-level data governance **Preferred Qualifications** - Master's Degree - 8+ years of experience in data governance, access, lineage, monitoring, and security controls - 7+ years of experience in Python, Java, Scala, or Node - 6+ years of experience with large-scale cross AWS account communications - 5+ years of experience in software architecture - 3+ years of experience in modern database technology evaluation and data modeling - 3+ years of experience in building resilient distributed data systems - 3+ years of experience in data engineering, including distributed data pipelines and test data engineering - 3+ years of experience in Agile practices - 1+ year of experience in developing strategy and implementing target architectures - AWS Solution Architect - Professional or AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty certified **Salary and Benefits** - Salary range for McLean, Virginia: $269,400 - $307,500 for Distinguished Engineer - Comprehensive health, financial, and other benefits to support your total well-being - Eligibility varies based on employment status and level **Application Information** Please note that Capital One is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
