Job Description
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 1:30 pm - 12 am
Jack Links is seeking a Receiving/Shipping Attendant within our Guard Shack to add to our team at the distribution center in Underwood, IA. The Receiving/Shipping Attendant plays an essential role within the Jack Links Distribution Center.
This position is responsible for maintaining the smooth and accurate flow of trucks and trailers in and out of the facility, sustaining a safe work environment and adhering to company policies and procedures. It requires an energetic, detail-oriented team member who enjoys collaborating with people both in person and over the phone. The Guard Shack can be fast paced, with a rush of trucks alternating with periods of calm, so being comfortable and initiative-taking in a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment is a must.
The Receiving/Shipping Attendant will interface daily with drivers, dispatch personnel, distribution team members, and leadership dealing with all inbound and outbound activity. The day-to-day may also include daily paperwork, administrative duties, coordinating communication, and welcoming everyone who passes through the gate in a friendly and hospitable manner. Above average computer skills are required as this position processes numerous transactions including inbound receipts, outbound shipping paperwork, daily reports, communicating via email and assisting with inbound/outbound scheduling.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:
- Control team members, visitors, and driver access through the gates.
- Screening and documentation of all visitors, directing authorized personnel to designated areas of the distribution center.
- Inspects inbound and outbound trailers/loads to prevent unauthorized entrance of personnel or products or unauthorized removal of company property or products.
- Records number of trucks / carriers entering and leaving the facility through a manual or computer-generated log.
- Management of inbound & outbound system transactions and paperwork.
- Has proficient knowledge of the process to facilitate and assist with the optimal flow in and out of the DC.
- Must be courteous, cooperative, and respectful always. Contact the immediate supervisor to manage any conflicts that may occur.
- Maintain a high focus on providing excellent customer service to our internal and external customers.
- Self-reliant and able to accurately work under limited supervision.
- This is a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift dedicated position although flexibility to work all shifts, including weekends, is required when necessary.
- This role includes wave planning duties which will be to develop and coordinate outbound plans, manage the release of waves to the warehouse floor, verify all orders are correctly aligned with shipment schedules, monitors the work, including staging, wave times, and pick assignments, and controls priority & pick level of each order plus maintains priority of urgent orders.
- Assists with general housekeeping of the guard shack and restroom.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in a distribution center with an emphasis on customer service and shipping/receiving experience. Overall understanding of distribution center processes.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions, and secure basic mathematical skills.
- Must be able to communicate in a professional manner with peers, customers, and leadership.
- Experience working in a challenging environment with the ability to manage stressful situations while maintaining company guidelines.
- Exhibits excellent customer service.
- Organizational skills
- Above average understanding / ability within the WMS and SAP as it relates to the shipping, receiving, and waving functions.

Tasks include standing, walking, bending, stretching, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and reaching. This position will work in challenging weather conditions which include heat, cold, wind and rain. The position will be exposed to these weather elements as they are physically inspecting trucks and trailers. Standing for extended periods of time may be required at certain points. The candidate must be able to talk or hear for safety and productivity. The team member must have acceptable and / or correctable vision.
