Job Description

The Senior Development Manager position is a wonderful opportunity for a driven, experienced, and talented fundraising professional to join a strong Chapter team and work closely with outstanding volunteers in order to impact the JDRF mission. This position is responsible for overseeing the management and financial growth for Chapter fundraising efforts, including the JDRF DC Hope Gala. The Development Manager will manage all aspects of event logistics, expenses and over $2.5 million in revenue. He/she will be a relationship manager for donors and corporate entities, and will have responsibility for developing leadership structures. The Development Manager will recruit, cultivate, and steward new volunteer leadership as well as identify future board member and donor prospects. A thorough understanding of JDRF operations, policies, and procedures is essential, as is a solid background in relational corporate fund development. requires a strong, collaborative leader who is outcomes driven.

• Working within JDRF’s volunteer – staff partnership environment, the Development Manager will support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of JDRF

• In partnership with the management team and Executive Director, the Development Manager will manage the direction of the DC Hope Gala

• Grow Chapter’s revenue through increased corporate, individual, and volunteer engagement

• Identify and assess sponsorship opportunities and develop win-win partnerships that focus on retention and growth

• Analyze and manage all gala expenses and revenue streams including: sponsorships, ticket sales, Fund A Cure donations, and live and silent auction

• Assist in the cultivation and stewardship of new volunteer leadership and identify future board members, donor prospects, and corporate sponsors

• Maintain a basic understanding of JDRF’s mission and research strategy

• Ensure the confidentiality and security of proprietary information

• Establish a network through which he/she represents the organization in professional societies/organizations

• Perform other duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible fundraising or related business experience

• Experience desired with fundraising and event/project management including budgeting and forecasting

• Experience recruiting and building event committees

• Understanding and working knowledge of philanthropy within the Washington, DC landscape

• Understanding and knowledge of donor centered fundraising

• Demonstrated experience in planning, managing, implementing, and fundraising events

• Volunteer management experience, especially around the staff-volunteer partnership

• Team player that has the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers

• Experienced in event committee development, succession planning, and committee accountability

• Works well within a matrix structure where more than one individual is providing guidance, feedback, counsel and support

• Understanding of computer systems and databases. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

• Effectively multi-task, establishes priorities, and work in a fast paced environment

• Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure

• Must develop, maintain, and utilize relationships and capability to leverage relationships

• Excellent written, oral, and communication skills; ability for presentation delivery, conveying ideas, and instructing effectively

• Superior active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills; exercise sound judgment

• Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative; well-disciplined and a self-starter that is extremely resourceful

• High capacity to assess the value, importance, and/or quality of activities and people

• Ability to travel locally required; occasional overnight travel as needed

• Evening and weekend work required as needed
