Job Description

Primary Function of Position

Lead and support improvements in cost, manufacturability, capacity, and serviceability for robotic surgical instruments and accessories.

Lead and support continuous improvement projects for the production process, time studies, production lines balance and striving to maintain gross efficiency metrics accuracy. Support in maintaining standard time for all products verifying there is enough space available, and capacity installed as well as providing HC quantity needed to meet the build-plan among other industrial engineering-related activities.

Support other Engineers in maintaining the plant layout accuracy, compliance with current needs/requirements and readiness for growth (i.e. office space, parking space, enough cafeteria space, time clocks, etc.).

Essential Job Duties

  • Maintaining labor efficiency metrics accurate and actionable for the Mexicali site.
  • Lead and execute continuous improvement projects.
  • Use of continuous improvement tools and methodologies such as DMAIC, root cause analysis, SPC, and statistical techniques for the implementation of continuous improvement projects.
  • Perform Time studies to determine standard time and line balancing.
  • Keep production time standards updated.
  • Maintaining the plant layout to improve productivity and capacity.
  • Lead and execute productivity improvement activities.
  • Lead and execute waste reduction activities.
  • Train, develop, and motivate production personnel to follow procedures, meet high quality standards, production schedules, and productivity requirements.
  • Ensure there is enough space availability for future growth.
  • Ensure there is enough capacity installed to meet build plan.
  • Ensure there are enough desks / space capacity to meet facilitators’ working place requirements.
  • Support and execute VSM of critical processes.
  • Support and execute initiatives focused on yield improvement.
  • Update documents as needed to maintain compliance with the quality system.
  • Update of manufacturing methods in Work instructions (MPI).
  • Operating procedures (SOP's, DOP's, etc.) creation and updates.
  • Support SIOP cycle and MS initiatives related to capacity & head count calculation for one to two of the plant’s workstreams.
  • Maintain capacity data accurate and updated.
  • Plan, supervise, drive improvement, and report production performance including output, yields, root cause failures, efficiencies, and trends for one to two of the plant’s workstreams.
  • Assist in setting and attaining quarterly and annual production goals.
  • Adherence to 5S Methodology.
  • Learn and enforce company safety policies and practices.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Travel: Position may require 5-10% travel, primarily within U.S.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience 

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal in English and Spanish.
  • Good English Level (+ 85 %).
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Proactive, organized.
  • Self-directed engineer with moderate supervision.
  • Demonstrate Process Engineering abilities.
  • Demonstrate root cause analysis abilities.
  • Schedule oriented and demonstrate results based on such schedules (Plans and Gantt charts).
  • Good at MS software
    • Intermediate Excel capabilities
  • Basic knowledge of statistics and six sigma methodology.

Required Education and Training

  • BS degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Intermediate manufacturing or process engineering experience with Mid/high volume manufacturing (preferred).
  • Prior experience working in an FDA/ISO regulated environment (preferred).
  • Lean Manufacturing skills
  • Six Sigma Green Belt skills
