Job Description

Primary Function of the Position

The Sr. FPGA Engineer will innovate, develop, and support surgical robotic devices and accessories for the da Vinci Surgical System, from concept to launch and beyond. The successful candidate will understand user needs and requirements, balance separate product-level requirements with system-level requirements, develop complex FPGA solutions for communications, video, control processing, and other advanced capabilities, and commit to the highest product quality.

Essential Job Duties

  • Serve as a lead technical designer on project teams to develop new world-class surgical robotic systems and accessories.
  • Implement FPGA design using System Verilog in the following areas: video signal processing, DMA, high-speed communications, sensor integration, motor control, and modern embedded computing modules.
  • Verify implemented design in simulation and hardware.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to Integrate, debug, and support the product before and after launch.
  • Write detailed design documentation, including specifications and verification protocols.
  • Support the quality and regulatory processes.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency with Verilog (preferably SystemVerilog) for both synthesis and verification.
  • Experienced in FPGA design or front-end IC design
  • In-depth knowledge of FPGA architecture, design, timing analysis, verification, and debug.
  • Extensive Experience with FPGA design tools (such as Vivado, Questa Sim, Chipscope)
  • Familiarity with at least one of the scripting languages such as Python, Tcl, Perl or Shell
  • Proficient with version control systems such as GIT or SVN.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and documentation skills.

Required Education and Training

  • Minimum MS with at least 6 years or BS with at least 8 years of industry experience in designing electronic devices with FPGAs.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with AMD/Xilinx FPGAs such as: Spartan, Artix, Virtex, Kintex, UltraScale and Ultrascale+ MPSoC.
  • Experience with SoC including (e.g., Zynq with ARM cores) and soft processors (e.g. MicroBlaze) is desirable.
  • Engineering management experience is a plus
  • Medical field experience is a plus
