Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
This Staff Electrical Engineer will develop new and innovative electronic components and subassemblies for the endoscopic cameras paired with DaVinci Surgical Systems. In this position, you will be part of a team of talented engineers in a focused, high energy, collaborative work environment, challenged to make sound decisions when faced with the time pressures and ambiguous or incomplete information typical of research and development. The successful candidate must have strong technical depth in electrical design and work with a diverse cross-functional engineering and support team. Supporting you will be a development and management team that knows and cares about what you are doing and is a partner in your continued career development and success.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Represent Electrical Engineering on cross-functional project teams that design and develop next generation endoscope products for robotic surgery
- Lead technical design of endoscope electronics
- Create design requirements for new endoscopes and endoscope PCBAs
- Develop, implement, test and document PCBA designs according to clinical and market requirements
- Design, test and evaluate prototypes to aid in the determination of future product release content
- Provide rapid development and iterative design support for the testing of new technology
- Execute failure analysis to determine root cause of failures during engineering testing and manufacturing
- Provide technical support to other company stakeholders on electronics and robotic surgical vision technology
- Support quality and regulatory processes
Qualifications
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
Required:
- Minimum BSEE with 12 years experience or MS with 8 years experience
- Experience with the full product development lifecycle including concept development, design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing
- Familiarity with a broad range of electronic components and hardware, including analog, power, microcontrollers, logic, and communication interfaces.
- Familiarity with analog, RF and/or high-speed PCBA designs (such as communications) at the schematic and PCB-design level.
- Experience with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and power supplies.
- Experience with schematic capture packages and layout tools (OrCAD/Allegro preferred)
- Passion for creating robust and reliable electronics designed for mission-critical applications
- Strong concept development, design analysis, hands-on prototyping, and performance and reliability testing skills
- Understanding of engineering materials, fabrication processes, component selection criteria, and design for reliability and manufacturability
- Experience working with flexible, rigid-flex, hybrid substrates.
- Familiarity with RF and antenna circuitry such as used in RFID and communications (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, power transfer, etc.)
- Experience designing digital circuitry operating in the GHz range, e.g. communications links
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) across all levels and organizations and to effectively communicate complex technical issues to a non-technical audience
Preferred:
- MSEE or equivalent with >8 years experience
- Experience with CMOS image sensors, video acquisition and processing, or optics
- Experience working with FDA and international requirements such as IEC60601 for developing medical device products
- Experience with FPGA logic design, tools, and verification process (Verilog and ModelSim preferred)
- Design for EMC compliance and troubleshooting/testing
- Knowledge of Python, C/C++, and/or Matlab
- Ability to travel up to 10% time (intermittent)
