Dental Hygienist
- Full-time
Company Description
Take your dental hygiene expertise to Diego Garcia, a remote island in the Indian Ocean, where you’ll provide preventive dental care, support oral health screenings, and work alongside a dental team serving personnel at an internationally based clinic.
At International SOS Government Medical Services, you'll support healthcare programs that improve patient care and operational readiness across the U.S. and internationally. Founded in 1984, International SOS operates in more than 90 countries, delivering healthcare, medical assistance, emergency response, and workforce support services worldwide.
Job Description
As a Dental Hygienist at this internationally based clinic, you will work with a dentist and other healthcare personnel to deliver routine preventive services, support urgent dental care, and help patients manage their oral health. Your work spans hands-on treatment, initial and annual dental screenings, documentation, and coordinated follow-up when more specialized treatment is needed.
Alongside regular hygiene appointments, you will help document clinical observations, track restorative treatment follow-up, and support dental screening for personnel arriving at the installation. Appropriate instrument processing, sharps controls, and supply readiness are part of maintaining a safe patient care environment. When specialty services are unavailable locally, accurate referral records help ensure care continues.
Employment Type: Full-time
Assignment Details: This position requires relocation to Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, for the duration of the assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform dental prophylaxis, periodontal assessments, fluoride treatments, and sealants when clinically appropriate; provide permitted periodontal therapy and local anesthesia only within authorized scope.
- Review oral and medical histories, screen for abnormalities, support initial and annual dental examinations, and communicate relevant findings to the dentist.
- Support dental imaging within on-island capabilities, maintain radiological safety and imaging records, and assist with routine or urgent dental treatment as authorized.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, prevention, treatment recommendations, and follow-up while maintaining accurate electronic dental records and readiness tracking.
- Coordinate referrals and treatment follow-up beyond local capabilities; monitor dental supplies, equipment readiness, sterilization, and infection-prevention controls.
- Contribute to patient safety, clinical quality activities, incident reporting, and assigned emergency preparedness exercises.
You will put your clinical hygiene skills to work across both direct patient care and the preventive services that keep a small dental clinic functioning well.
