Job Description

Provide administrative support within an integrated outpatient healthcare setting serving Veterans at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center. This role supports patient scheduling, care coordination, and electronic medical record workflows that contribute to efficient clinic operations and a positive patient experience. Working alongside interdisciplinary healthcare teams, the Medical Support Assistant helps maintain organized clinical workflows and continuity of care across multiple services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments to support timely access to Veteran care services
  • Manage electronic consults, provider orders, and follow-up actions within the electronic medical record system
  • Support administrative workflows related to patient care coordination and clinical documentation
  • Communicate professionally with Veterans, providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams regarding scheduling and care needs
  • Maintain accurate records while supporting organized, patient-centered clinic operations
  • Protect sensitive patient information and follow established healthcare privacy and security standards

Qualifications

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 6+ months of customer service experience
  • Ability to type at least 50 words per minute
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust Clearance
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Preferred

  • Experience supporting healthcare scheduling or clinical administrative workflows
  • Experience working within electronic medical record systems
  • Prior experience in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment
