Job Description
This position is in support of the Influx Care Facility located in Carrizo Springs, TX. The purpose of the facility is to provide comprehensive care for migrant youths ages 13 to 17 in the Care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) who are awaiting reunification or repatriation. This care will begin as soon as the youths arrive at the facility and last until their arranged departure with family or sponsors. The comprehensive care includes but is not limited to initial screening and exams, identifications of prior conditions and allergies, day to day care of routine, urgent and emergency medical conditions.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will provide urgent and compassionate care to immigrant children, addressing their medical needs while being sensitive to the cultural and emotional challenges they face. This role involves triaging patients, performing assessments, administering treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best outcomes for this vulnerable population.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments and triage of immigrant children presenting with various medical conditions.
- Provide immediate and appropriate nursing care while ensuring a culturally sensitive approach to treatment.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment options, and follow-up care in an understandable manner.
- Document all patient care activities accurately and promptly in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Organize and participate in emergency response efforts, ensuring a safe environment for children and their families.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of immigrant children within the healthcare system, providing information about available resources and support services.
- Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within licensed scope of work.
- Assessment and documentation of the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, prescribed medications.
- Proactively and independently administer basic and urgent/emergent care, including but not limited to inserting catheters with blood specimen collection, urine collection and EKG’s, visual acuity, basic wound care, and changing bandages.
- Provides support and education to help patients make responsible health decisions.
- Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies.
- Restocking clinical and provider areas once supplies are received.
- Is accountable for maintaining and improving own physician knowledge and skill competence.
- Provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients in the clinic.
- Supports the International SOS philosophy, objectives and goals and Organization mission and vision.
- Respects and supports patient rights.
- Fosters constructive relationships as a team member within assigned department and with the members of other departments.
- Maintains professional conduct.
- Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Experience Required:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as an LPN or LVN.
- Graduate of an accredited LVN or LPN 2-year program awarding an associate's degree or equivalent.
- Prior experience with ORR programs preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Electronic Medical Records.
Education Required:
- Current and unrestricted license in the State of Texas or Compact State as applicable.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
- Experience in Pediatrics, Medical Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Pediatric Emergency Room settings is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred
- On call requirements as part of a rotation if required.
Other Special Qualifications:
- Must be a US Citizen or possess a permanent resident card.
- Current MRPT Clearance preferred.
- Eligible to receive a federal tier II clearance and Pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Check.
- Must be able to relocate to site for duration of the contract.

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
