Job Description

Under minimal direction, the Sr. Database Developer & Administrator will design, develop, maintain, monitor, secure and performance tune both in-house and third party purchased databases, reports and jobs using requisite tools.  This role will work closely with Business Analysts, Application Developers and Quality Assurance Analysts to produce optimal and secure database solutions which align to organizational needs.  The Sr. Developer & Administrator is a self-starter who works effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.  This role enjoys working on new technologies and innovating while also maintaining legacy systems in a secure fashion.

 

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Database Development:  Under minimal supervision, design, create, unit test, implement and document all database objects (to include Stored Procedures and Function development) to support applications (in-house and third party) as outlined by the DQ® Data Architecture Standards and Database Development Standards.  Work with Business Analysts to understand user requirements and collaborate with technical peers to ensure well thought-out design.  Meet with requestor to discuss design concept(s) to ensure solution meets desired outcome, as needed.  Quality work throughout the SDLC is a priority.  Manage, maintain, and develop in SSRS Reporting services.
  • Database Optimization & Security: Using good practices during database development and also post implementation, assess database performance through available SQL & Azure Analysis tool and tune where needed.  Plan for capacity and data recovery.  Utilize good data security practices, approved tools and methods when handling DQ® data.  Security throughout the system is a priority.
  • Level III Support & Monitoring: Triage and address trouble-tickets as assigned based on priority.  Update tickets with pertinent information prior to completion.  Educate the Support Staff as to areas to improve/address for enhanced service to user opportunities.  Monitor jobs to ensure successful completion and address exceptions in a timely manner.  
  • Continuous Refinement & Innovation: Recommend areas of improvement for the DBA practice, Procedures, Tools and Automation which support Department strategies and fit IDQ identity.  Keep watch as to DBA industry practices and applicable use at DQ®.

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications:

 

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree in IS, IT or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5+ years of Database (SQL, Azure) Development experience (queries, stored procedures, reports). 
  • 5+ years of Database (SQL, Azure) Administration experience (database design, configuration, capacity planning).
  • Solid experience creating complex queries using Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Solid experience in Microsoft SQL Server and in writing SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports
  • Experience tuning a database(s) and monitoring performance/jobs.
  • Experience mapping data from source to target, including data transformation that must occur.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tool data modelling.
  • Experience with Extract Transform and Load (ETL) tools preferred.
  • Experience defining database structure, security, back-up, recovery and monitoring.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently participate in various teams and/or customer attended meetings in order to understand business requirements as well as articulate design options and recommendations.
  • Ability to create data design flow documentation as well as produce Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD) for team member consumption and review.
  • Uphold and follow DQ ® Data Development Standards and good Database practices.
  • Provide input and recommendation for Data Development Standards.

Work Environment

Most positions located out of our global headquarters in Bloomington, MN will work a hybrid work schedule where you will work 2 collaboration days a week.  Additional in office time may be required to support team/project needs.  Positions will be identified as “remote eligible” when consideration will be given to candidates outside of drivable distance to our Bloomington office.
