Job Description
IKEA Museum, Archive and Collection department is hiring a conservator to join the team on a temporary contract. Your assignments is to oversee and maintain the condition of our historical material installed in the museum or stored in the depository. Inspections, cleaning and risk assessments of historical objects are some examples of methods which may need adaptable and creative solutions.
Most of the work is carried out within a larger project – a digitising project, in order to make the IKEA Museum artefact collection more accessible. Within this project it is your assignment to carry out preventive conservation care and documentation of all artefacts that are being digitised. Thereto the physical handling and packing of artefacts during the digitising routine is a task for the conservator. Within the project team members have different competences but work together to care and document the artefact collection. About 80% of the workload will be carried out with in the project.
The materials to be worked on range widely – as does the material of the IKEA Product range.
About the job
To care for the historical objects by being the expert and executer of conservation measures.
Clean, mark, maintain, pack and document artefacts with in the digitisation project.
Clean and oversee artefacts exhibited in the museum.
Inspect and assess risks with in the environments objects are kept.
Support and further develop the conservational work methods within IKEA Museum.
Project-based assignments and ways of working.
Qualifications
You have a degree in the field of conservation and practical experience/training in conservation is required as well as good knowledge of various materials; furniture and wood preferably. You have also worked in museum databases and a good understanding of project based work flows.
You have good abilities in planning, structuring and following up your work, thoroughly and clearly in all processes and you pay attention to details.
You are inspired by working in an environment with high energy and enjoy working together with others which competences are mixed. You have a passion of working across the whole organization and you are service-minded with a positive attitude. You communicate in an open and straightforward manner and transform feedback to actions. You have an eye for what needs to be done, you are capable to prioritize tasks and motivate the priorities. You are curious in finding better ways of working and you are a problem solver.
We expect you to be fluent in both spoken and written English.

Interviews will take place on an ongoing basis. The closing date for applying is 2018-05-20.
The job is temporary covering for a maternity leave, the starting date will be about 2018-07-01 or according to agreement.
