Job Description

Join our specialist Calibration Laboratory team and play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of metering devices used across New Zealand.

As a Calibration Laboratory Technician, you'll work with sophisticated testing and calibration equipment, refurbishing, programming, testing and evaluating metering devices to ensure they meet quality, safety and performance standards. You'll gain exposure to accredited laboratory practices, industry-leading technology and a highly specialised field that combines electronics, testing and quality assurance.

Working alongside experienced technicians and engineers, you'll contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while helping maintain the laboratory's ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and reputation for technical excellence.

Key Accountabilities

  • Refurbish, program, calibrate and test metering devices.
  • Perform testing and calibration activities in accordance with approved laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, testing systems and reference standards.
  • Identify, investigate and report technical issues and faults.
  • Recommend improvements to testing processes and laboratory practices.
  • Support the evaluation of new metering technologies and devices.
  • Diagnose and document faults in defective metering assets.
  • Contribute to the development and review of laboratory procedures and work instructions.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs to demonstrate laboratory competency.
  • Support audit activities, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide Key Technical Personnel (KTP) coverage within approved areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO/IEC 17025 and IANZ accreditation requirements.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Electrical or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working in a technical, testing, calibration or laboratory environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Practical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of calibration, measurement uncertainty or metrology principles is desirable.
  • IANZ Key Technical Personnel (KTP) experience would be highly regarded.

Additional Information

This role is based in our Penrose office with a requirement to work on-site five days per week.
