Job Description
Ingram Marine Group is looking for a Forklift Operator in the Ashland City, TN area. The Forklift Operator at the river terminal is responsible for safely and efficiently operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, transport, and store cargo at the terminal. This role plays a critical part in maintaining smooth terminal operations, ensuring timely processing of goods, and adhering to safety protocols.
What you will be doing:
- Safely operate up to a 16k a forklift to move and stack cargo, containers, and goods in the terminal yard.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of cargo from vessels, trucks, and rail cars.
- Operate and maintain terminal equipment such as conveyors, and door gun, barge loader spout, and hard car probe at all terminal facilities.
- Ensure that cargo is properly secured and organized for transport or storage.
- Assist with opening and closing barge cover access doors, and/or removing and resetting barge cover tops.
- Monitor and communicate with barge drafter or crane operator.
- Monitor and communicate barge drafts loader or crane operator.
- Perform routine checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, including dock areas, warehouse spaces, and cargo storage areas.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and vessel crew members to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist with inventory, including tracking cargo and reporting discrepancies.
- Perform general labor tasks such as cleaning, sorting, and organizing goods, tools, and supplies.
- Cleaning product from pits, barge decks and barge covers, and other areas as necessary.
- Work in varying weather conditions and maintain physical stamina throughout shifts.
- Perform any other reasonable task as requested.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Operate up to a 16k forklift
- Physical activities that are essentials to daily functions include but are not limited to:
- 1) regularly lifting loads up to 50lbs unassisted and occasionally up to 75lbs.
- 2) Climbing of ladders over 20’ of vertical height while using fall protection.
- 3) Frequently carrying, dragging, and pulling of wires, lines and railcar door opener equipment.
- 4) Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling and reaching.
- 5) Frequent shoveling and sweeping and strenuous sledgehammering of railcars. Familiarity with safety protocols and ability to follow instructions.

- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and follow directions.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, if necessary.
- Frequent lifting, bending, and moving of materials.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods of time.
Other Requirements:
- High School Diploma is preferred
- Previous experience in a warehouse, dock, or terminal environment is a plus
- Forklift certification is required

Working Environment and Conditions:
- Outdoor/indoor working environment with exposure to loud noises, dust, and potentially hazardous materials
- Shift work may be required, including weekends or holidays, depending on the operation schedule
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, hard hats, gloves, and steel-toe boots
