Job Description

The Head of Sales would be responsible for leading a department to deliver overall revenue and profit objectives, often setting the strategic agenda for operations within a specialist area or region, towards profitable and sustainable trading. These roles usually carry responsibility for a high level of cross-functional or departmental collaboration and are required to design and lead specific strategic initiatives in cooperation with key stakeholders.

What you'll be doing:

  • Achieve and exceed annual territory sales targets, delivering the overall revenue and profit objectives of the department or specialist area
  • Design, with key stakeholders, a 1–3 year business plan for the department/area, ensuring that activity is both relevant and flexible to the evolving trading environment over time
  • Identify and execute strategic activity projects relating to quality improvement and the effectiveness of sales operations, delivering quantifiable business benefit and in line with Six Sigma improvement criteria
  • Lead the department/area sales team, delivering a clear vision for operational effectiveness, development of revenue lines through increased trading and profitability.
  • Manage resources to ensure that the structure and makeup of their team is optimal towards the success of the sales operation
  • Report periodically to key stakeholders on sales progress and the business environment, this monitoring enabling responsiveness to both the micro and macro trading conditions
  • Drive compliance with company trading and terms policy to protect profitability and value of business in the territory
  • Actively liaise with other stakeholder departments or groups within the business to enhance T&F’s coverage of the territory
  • Where necessary, represent the company externally e.g. on working party groups or through networks, maintaining a presence and information gathering role on the trading environment
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks and responsibilities as required to support evolving business needs

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Significant experience of working in a sales environment (+5 years), with an understanding of the demands placed in sales and the support needs of a sales team
  • Demonstrated experience leading, motivating and developing high-performing sales teams, with a proven track record of driving results through effective delegation, coaching, and performance management
  • Considerably knowledge of the academic publishing industry or the eBooks and journals trade
  • Familiarity with key business models and industry stakeholders

Skills and Behaviours Required

  • The ability to influence, drive for results and establish clear agenda for department/division
  • Strong ability to communicate appropriately, both upstream and downstream within the organization
  • Positive and flexible attitude, willing to take on many different types of tasks and apply to them the same level of effort and expertise
  • Full professional proficiency in both English and Korean, with excellent verbal and written communication skills suitable for business operations and stakeholder engagement globally and regionally
  • The ability to work independently and pro-actively, with awareness of when to delegate tasks
  • Willingness to travel on territory and to conferences, book fairs as required by the company
  • Target driven approach and the skills to manage sales plans and delivery
  • Ability to create and maintain positive and effective relationships with the commercial team and other internal colleagues
  • Demonstratable initiative with a proactive, adaptable, and change-positive mindset in response to shifting priorities and business transformation

Location:

  • This role is open to candidates residing in Seoul, South Korea, you must have the right to work and live in South Korea

When you’re not spending time together in one of our offices or other workplaces – like at conference – you get the flexibility and support to work from home or remotely.

    The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our Seoul office to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office location 3 days per week.
