Job Description
This role is based in our Menara Skymind office.
We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team in Penang.
Purpose of role:
The purpose of the Data Management Engineer role is to ensure the organization’s data assets are effectively managed, governed, and utilized to drive business value. This position is central to maintaining the integrity, security, and accessibility of data across systems, enabling informed decision-making and operational efficiency. The Data Management Engineer will design and implement robust data management solutions, enforce governance standards, and collaborate with stakeholders to optimize data processes. By ensuring high-quality, reliable, and compliant data, the role supports the organization’s strategic objectives and fosters innovation through data-driven insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable data management solutions to support business needs.
- Develop and maintain data models, schemas, and metadata repositories.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across systems.
- Collaborate with the Data Governance team to enforce policies, standards, and best practices for data management.
- Monitor compliance with data governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
- Support data stewardship initiatives to ensure accountability for data quality and usage.
- Develop and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for data integration.
- Ensure seamless data flow between systems and applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data integration issues.
- Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Work with IT and security teams to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to data management.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including IT, analytics, and business units, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and training to stakeholders on data management tools and practices.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in data management and governance.
- Propose and implement improvements to existing data management processes and systems.
Ethics & Transparency:
- Ensure strict compliance with global data regulations (such as GDPR, CCPA) and internal governance standards to safeguard personal and sensitive data across all data pipelines and storage systems.
- Maintain transparency in data engineering processes by clearly documenting data sources, transformation logic, data quality rules, and pipeline behavior so stakeholders understand how data is processed and delivered.
- Take ownership of assigned engineering tasks and proactively engage with stakeholders, including analysts, researchers, and technology teams to ensure clear, timely, and accurate communication throughout the data lifecycle.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding and commitment to Data Engineering and I&A goals, values, and best practices, adhering to all relevant policies, security guidelines, and ethical data-handling frameworks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in data management, data engineering, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices.
- Hands-on experience with data modeling, database design, and SQL.
- Experience with ETL tools and processes (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Apache Nifi).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Knowledge of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or R.
- Expertise in data management tools and technologies.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferred).
- Certifications in data management or governance (e.g., DAMA Certified Data Management Professional, AWS Certified Data Analytics) (preferred).
- Experience with machine learning and AI-driven data solutions (preferred).
