Job Description

MISSION

The Assortment Analyst, Print helps to shape the Indigo customer experience by managing the selection of books available across all locations. The Assortment Analyst is a unique role that brings together analytics, high-concept problem resolution, technical skills, business insights, and product knowledge.

The Assortment Analyst is responsible for managing the assortment of a portfolio of book categories to enrich the customer experience in ‘the stacks;’ growing sales as well as assortment and inventory efficiency. This individual manages the curation of relevant assortment and category-space in stores.

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS

  • All channel program performance: Net Sales, Net Margin, Units sales, and Market Share
  • Productivity of inventory & assortment (NMROI, Turns, Returns rate) 
  • Store Help Ticket within SLAs

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Functional

  • Utilize data driven assortment decision making to improve customer experience in the stacks
  • Tailor assortment to store specific customer demand
  • Influence and shape category portfolio strategies
  • Measure existing assortment approaches and identify new opportunities to improve
  • Build strong partnerships with Regional Directors and Retail Stores
  • Build, use, and maintain customer based assortments for initial buys and reassortment
  • Monitor performance to identify opportunities to grow or shrink assortment of individual titles
  • Analyze, assess, and recommend space optimization based on productivity and ROI
  • Continuously improve space planning tools to optimize assortment and inventory
  • Develop regular reports and recommendations based on review and analysis that are shared with the retail partners.
  • Report on and hold Category Managers accountable with regard to the on-time status of their respective buys on a weekly basis
  • Communicate effectively with other functional teams (e.g. Category Management, Retail Operations, and Distribution Centre)
  • Resolve store-reported inventory problems within service level agreements
  • Work with Customer Intelligence to gain key insights into customer behavior
  • Provide SAP super user expertise.
  • Drive and supports process improvement initiatives
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes
  • Embrace and seek out technology that creates high tech and high touch solutions for Indigo’s customers
  • Challenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement, diagnosing issues and working to resolve them

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience / Education / Certifications

  • 2-3 years of analytical experience with emphasis on allocation, assortment, and inventory management (ideally in a retail environment) and should have knowledge of ERP systems (SAP)
  • University/College degree in Business, Engineering, Math or similar program

  • Ability to interpret and action customer behavior and buying trends

  • Strong user of MS Excel or MS Access

  • Comfortable handling risk and uncertainty
  • Ability to understand problems and recommend solutions
  • Results driven
  • Strong desire to learn and grow within the organization, with an understanding that development is an employee’s own responsibility
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and reacting quickly to shifting priorities
  • Working experience with advanced data entry and manipulation
  • Functional knowledge of SAP is an asset
