Job Description
This position is located in our Bloomington, IN, office. It is a hybrid role, with an average of 3 days in-office / 2 days remote per week. The salary range for this role is $52,000-$60,000. A cover letter is strongly recommended for your application to be considered.

We’re looking for a first-rate wordsmith to join our talented, in-house team of writers, designers, and web developers. From emails to video scripts to feature stories to digital ads, you’ll have the chance to flex your creative muscle in a variety of media and to put your writing talents to use on behalf of Indiana University.
The marketing writer will work with colleagues throughout the IU Foundation, IU Alumni Association, and Indiana University. Project responsibilities will extend from concept to execution. Working strategically as well as creatively, the marketing writer will:
- Write engaging feature stories, fundraising solicitations, stewardship communications, and advertising copy
- Create content for websites, emails, social media, direct mail, events, and related marketing collateral
- Prepare scripts for video projects and presentations
The successful candidate will:
- Have an excellent grasp of the English language from both creative and grammatical standpoints
- Think strategically about building exceptional and effective audience journeys
- Demonstrate excellent listening and interpersonal skills
- Collect and interpret information from wide-ranging sources
- Exercise a sound understanding of target audiences
- Adhere to deadlines—some with short turnaround times
- Work individually and in group settings
- Infuse advancement marketing work with originality and imagination
- Approach their work with an open mind, a commitment to high standards, and a hearty sense of humor

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, or other appropriate field required
- Minimum of 2 years of writing and editing experience, preferably with a marketing focus
- Experience in an agency, media, academic, or nonprofit setting preferred
- Combination of education/career experience may be considered
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent writing, editing, and creative concepting abilities
- Strong verbal and written presentation skills
- Thorough knowledge of print and electronic communication vehicles
- Proven ability as a thoughtful copy editor and content strategist for both print and electronic media
- Familiarity with marketing concepts, strategies, and tactics
- Awareness of the relationship between written and visual content for effective communication
- Ability to work independently as well as within group settings
- Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills
- Interpersonal skills and judgment suitable for exercising appropriate discretion and demeanor in interactions with staff, board members, and members of the university community
- Ability to use current computer technology, including both PC and Mac platforms
- A general understanding of basic fundraising/advancement principles and tactics preferred
- Experience in service-oriented, client-based relationships, with a demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service preferred
