Job Description

BASIC DESCRIPTION:

Provide leadership and direct supervision of the Precision Welding Solutions Division welding engineering team to ensure standardized weld process development, customer technical issues are resolved, and welding related New Product Development (NPD) deliverables are met on time. The key responsibilities include managing and developing the welding engineering talent, owning and evolving weld development processes/solutions that simplify, and optimize Customer Back Innovation (CBI) efforts, and serving the welding-related needs of our PWS Division related to CBI, warranty, and value engineering objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate across functional areas and project leads to align resources and efforts with priorities based on project/task feasibility, cost, schedule, capabilities, and resource requirements.
  • Assess and evolve the welding development processes to improve the consistency and predictability of weld development efforts on CBI projects.
  • Continue to develop and build our hand-held laser welding knowledge base.  Help drive efforts to influence standards related to hand-held laser welding and safety.
  • Develop, and manage a robust and diverse Welding Engineering Talent Pipeline within the PWS Division. Collaborate with the rest of the campus engineering managers to identify opportunities for key talent moves.
  • Identify key development opportunities for team members.  Coach team members through stretch opportunities for personal development and career growth.
  • Manage staffing requirements through recruiting, interviewing, and selection of candidates.  
  • Promote an inclusive work environment and seek to enable team engagement.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals, providing candid performance feedback.
  • Provide ongoing, actionable, and constructive feedback to help identify opportunities, recognize accomplishments, and assist in setting goals and development planning.
  • Work proactively with CBI teams to mitigate welding-related project risk on new product designs.
  • Maintain an understanding, interest and awareness of welding technologies and customer needs that can add value to targeted end markets.
  • Understand, influence, and support the implementation of AP & LRP priorities
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering with 5+ years of experience as an individual contributor. Management experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in coaching, mentoring, leading, and developing team members
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • Ability to lead individuals and groups, effectively utilize available resources, and delegate work effectively to achieve goals of the project teams, division, and company.
  • Strong ability to deliver results through others
  • Persistent safety mindset (employees, customers, environment, society)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Deep understanding of the welding technologies, processes, products, and associated features within ITW Welding.
  • Deep understand of the weld development processes across ITW Welding power source divisions.
  • Practitioner of ITW Business Model (CBI, 80/20 FTB, Culture) 
  • Leads with an enterprise mindset
  • Understands metrics that impact the business’ financial health
  • Understanding of applicable regulatory requirements and impact
