Process Engineer – Uranium Mining Project - Namibia French speaking
- Full-time
Company Description
IOTA Group supports its clients in delivering major international projects across the energy, nuclear, mining, infrastructure and industrial sectors.
For a major uranium mining project in Namibia, we are currently looking for an experienced Process Engineer
Job Description
- Perform and review the process engineering of the project (ore transportation and mechanical preparation, leaching, solution handling, precipitation, drying and packaging, reagents and utilities), including oversight of EPCM/EPC contractors, to deliver a safe, efficient and cost-effective process design.
- Contribute to the process design basis and design criteria, using metallurgical testwork results, and ensure their traceability through design.
- Review process deliverables (process flow diagrams, mass and water balances, P&IDs, process datasheets, control philosophy, line lists).
- Support the definition, execution and interpretation of the pilot test and metallurgical testwork, in coordination with the Home Office and laboratories.
- Participate in HAZID and HAZOP studies, with a specific focus on radiological, chemical and process hazards, and follow up on actions.
- Manage the process configuration of the project in close coordination with other disciplines, under the management/decision of the Engineering Manager (change management process).
- Prepare process specifications and technical bid evaluations for process equipment and packages, and review vendor data with Procurement.
- Contribute to OPEX estimates (reagents, water, energy), process optimization and change requests, and support commissioning and ramp-up.
- Report progress, technical issues and risks to the Engineering Manager, and contribute to process simulation and digitalization of engineering data.
- Identify contractual concerns related to process engineering (scope, performance guarantees, design changes) and report them to the Engineering Manager.
- Apply the norms and standards in terms of legal, ethics, compliance and duty of vigilance, in close coordination with Mining engineering, HSSE departments and HQ.
Qualifications
Background
- Engineering degree in Chemical, Process or Metallurgical Engineering; professional registration (ECN Namibia, ECSA or equivalent) is a plus.
- Proven track record of more than 8 years of experience in process engineering on mining or mineral processing projects (EPC/EPCM), including hydrometallurgical plants.
- Strong knowledge of hydrometallurgical process design, preferably uranium (heap leaching, ion exchange, elution, precipitation), from conceptual to detailed design.
- Ability to translate metallurgical testwork and pilot test results into design criteria, mass and water balances and process flowsheets.
- Ability to build and use process simulation and balance models (e.g. METSIM, SysCAD or equivalent) to support design and optimization.
- Knowledge of the procurement cycle: preparing process specifications and datasheets, performing technical bid evaluations and reviewing vendor data.
- Strong knowledge of mass and water balances, P&IDs, process control philosophy and international codes and standards.
- Knowledge of water management, effluent and residue handling, and their integration in the process design.
- Knowledge of construction and commissioning stages to integrate operability, maintainability and control requirements.
- Ability to estimate process OPEX (reagents, water, energy, consumables) and provide technical input to the CAPEX estimate.
- Ability to plan process deliverables, monitor their progress and anticipate the impact of design maturity on procurement and construction.
- Knowledge of Namibian regulations, and experience in nuclear or radiologically controlled facilities, uranium processing, pilot plants or plant commissioning are a bonus.
- Valid driving licence.
Skills & Personal Attributes
- Team player, able to coordinate with other disciplines, contractors and laboratories.
- Able to integrate HSE in process design and contribute to HAZID and HAZOP studies, with a specific focus on radiological, chemical and major hazard risks.
