Job Description

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key technical role in developing high-precision mechanical systems from concept through series production. You will contribute deep mechanical expertise, take ownership of complex design topics, and collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure technically robust, manufacturable, and innovative solutions.

This role emphasizes hands-on engineering, technical decision-making, and end-to-end responsibility for mechanical designs in challenging projects.

  • Design and develop high-precision mechanical systems from concept, detail design, and validation through series production
  • Take technical ownership of mechanical components and assemblies, including calculations, simulations, tolerancing, and documentation
  • Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications with a focus on quality, robustness, and manufacturability
  • Collaborate closely with production, procurement, suppliers, quality, integration, electronics, and service teams
  • Support industrialization and ensure smooth transfer from development to manufacturing
  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments (e.g. FMEA), and validation activities
  • Apply and further develop design standards, best practices, and lessons learned
  • Act as a technical mentor and sparring partner for other engineers, sharing expertise and supporting technical growth
  • Evaluate and introduce new technologies, materials, and design approaches to improve performance and reliability

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the semiconductor industry
  • Strong expertise in machine design, physics, strength of materials, and high-precision mechanical systems
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), including PDM systems and detailed technical documentation
  • In-depth knowledge of materials selection, tolerancing, surface finishes, and international standards (ISO, ANSI, DIN)
  • Experience with high-precision manufacturing processes and design verification methods (FMEA, simulations, prototyping, industrialization)
  • Solid understanding of safety and regulatory requirements and multidisciplinary system design, including electrical interfaces
  • Experience in vacuum technology, FE simulations, and complex projects under tight deadlines
  • Structured, analytical working style with a strong focus on technical depth and long-term solution quality
