Job Description

The Business Operations Manager is a hybrid leadership and coordination role that supports the growth of IFS Ultimo Sri Lanka as a high-performing, cross-functional site. The role combines operational ownership across non-product development functions with direct people management for a small group of individual contributors.

This position is responsible for creating structure, alignment, and momentum across site operations while strengthening employee experience, stakeholder collaboration, and effective ways of working. It requires a highly autonomous and adaptable person who can manage ambiguity, respond to changing business needs, and take ownership of priorities that support the site’s continued growth.

The selected candidate will be part of the Ultimo Sri Lanka Leadership Team.

Key Requirement

The ideal candidate can balance people leadership with operational coordination and works with a high degree of autonomy, accountability, and self-motivation. This person should be comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, making sound decisions, and maintaining momentum when priorities shift.

The role requires someone who can:

  • Lead and support a small team of individual contributors across non-product development areas.
  • Coordinate operational priorities across functions and ensure site-level activities run smoothly.
  • Bring structure, clarity, and follow-through to business processes and initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships across stakeholders and act as a trusted coordination partner.
  • Improve ways of working through practical use of AI and digital tools.
  • Take initiative, anticipate needs, and follow through independently.

Job Responsibilities

Operations and Administration

  • Coordinate and improve core site operations, including onboarding, tracking, reporting, vendor coordination, and administrative processes.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives by managing timelines, actions, dependencies, and follow-ups.
  • Prepare dashboards, reports, and operational updates for leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and execution, including through AI-enabled ways of working.

People Leadership

  • Act as the direct team lead for a group of individual contributors across non-product development functions.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and regular check-ins to support performance, development, and engagement.
  • Foster accountability, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose across a diverse team.

Stakeholder Management and Business Partnering

  • Partner with internal stakeholders across functions to align priorities and support smooth site execution.
  • Support internal communication, employee experience, and site-wide initiatives that strengthen culture and collaboration.
  • Act as a trusted business partner by anticipating risks, clarifying ownership, and enabling timely decisions.

Qualifications

Required experience and knowledge

  • Proven experience in business operations, coordination, administration, people operations, or a similar cross-functional role.
  • Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring team members.
  • Experience working across support functions such as Finance, IT, Marketing, HR, Academy, or similar areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate initiatives, manage multiple priorities, and drive follow-through in a growing organization.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across teams and functions.
  • Business fluency in English.

Preferred education & competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Operations, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong sense of ownership, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Highly autonomous and adaptable, with the ability to manage ambiguity, respond to changing needs, and maintain momentum across priorities.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
