Job Description
Role Overview
The PMO Finance Lead will ensure financial governance and strategic alignment across the project portfolio. This role manages budgets, resourcing, and cost forecasting at month-end, while partnering closely with Project Managers and the PMO to monitor project health, schedule, and financial performance. The position also supports strategic planning and enforces adherence to the project delivery framework and governance standards, ensuring disciplined execution and compliance with the project charter.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Own month-end financial processes, including accruals, actuals reconciliation, and variance analysis.
- Develop and maintain project and portfolio-level budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Provide accurate and timely financial reports to senior stakeholders and PMO leadership.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and external regulatory requirements.
Project Governance & Framework Discipline
- Work closely with the PMO to ensure the project delivery framework is implemented and governance standards are followed.
- Monitor adherence to stage-gate processes, RACI, and reporting requirements.
- Drive accountability and discipline across projects to maintain quality and compliance.
Project Health Monitoring
- Collaborate with Project Managers to track cost, schedule, and overall health of projects.
- Analyse variances and recommend corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Support portfolio board reporting with financial and governance insights.
Strategic Planning & Alignment
- Partner with PMO leadership to align financial planning with organisational strategy.
- Contribute to portfolio prioritisation and resource allocation decisions.
- Ensure projects deliver agreed scope and requirements; investigate and report reasons for deviations.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to PMs and senior leadership on financial and governance matters.
- Facilitate communication between Finance, PMO, and delivery teams to maintain transparency and compliance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA/CIMA preferred).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial management within a PMO or project environment.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cost control in multi-project portfolios.
- Familiarity with governance frameworks and project delivery methodologies (PRINCE2, PMP, hybrid).
- Proficiency in financial systems and project management tools (e.g., ERP, Power BI, JIRA, THOR).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
