Job Description

Arcadis is seeking a Transportation Planner to join our growing transportation team. We are actively working to make communities safer and more sustainable by expanding our team with diverse skill sets. Such skills include transportation planning and policy review and analysis, transportation data analysis, clear technical and policy writing, an awareness of key planning frameworks and policies (i.e. Provincial Policy Statement, Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, Ontario Traffic Manuals), and appreciation for public and stakeholder consultation. 

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills, be eager to learn, and enjoy working in a fast-paced consulting environment. Strong writing, presentation, and public speaking skills will be of benefit in this position.

You will play an important role in supporting project task work, conducting analysis, preparing documentation, reporting and presenting findings. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of professionals including active transportation, transit, goods movement, placemaking, safety, traffic engineering, modelling, etc.

Role Accountabilities:

As a Transportation Planner in our growing Mobility Advisory team typical projects and tasks will include:

 

  • Supporting transportation planning tasks through policy and planning review and analysis, transportation data analysis, and transportation network analysis
  • Contributing to the writing of reports including background context reports, needs assessment reports, network development reports, and consultation summaries
  • Contributing to the development of broader visioning plans (e.g. transportation master plans) and policies (e.g. safety, Complete Streets)
  • Supporting consultation planning and conduct, including preparing presentations and other materials for meetings, as well as analysing findings
  • Attending client and stakeholder meetings, as required, and preparing clear and accurate meeting minutes
  • Researching ongoing and evolving industry and municipal best practices in the realm of transportation planning, such as goods movement, Complete Streets, new and emerging technologies, road user safety, traffic calming, active transportation, traffic demand management, and other community-building initiatives
  • Contributing to writing proposals

 


 

Qualifications

  • University degree in urban/regional planning, civil engineering, or related field
  • Eligibility to become a Registered Professional Planner or a Professional Engineer is an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, ArcGIS, or Adobe Illustrator an asset
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a commitment to excellence and high-quality work 
  • Proven technical writing skills in English
  • A proven ability to create visually attractive documents, presentations, and graphics or visuals is an asset
  • Ability to be flexible and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team, while maintaining quality work within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to regularly attend client and public meetings in person in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond
  • Demonstrated collaborative attitude in working with members of our diverse team
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
