Job Description

Role Description: 

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Planning Intern to join our San Diego office. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of transportation planning while contributing to our team's projects and initiatives. This internship will provide you with exposure to various aspects of transportation planning, data review and analysis, and contracting with public agencies, making it an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a degree in transportation planning, urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field. Project work may include, but are not limited to, transit planning, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) planning, field collection of traffic data, border travel and mobility planning, intelligent transportation systems, parking, sustainable and alternative modes of transportation, and urban design.

 

Role Accountabilities: 

  • Data Analysis and Research: Conduct data analysis and research on transportation-related topics, such as traffic patterns, public transit systems, and sustainable transportation solutions. Assist in gathering and interpreting data to inform planning decisions.
  • Traffic Analysis: Assist in conducting traffic studies, including traffic volume counts, congestion analysis, and the evaluation of traffic management solutions. Projects may involve field work between San Diego and in Tijuana, Mexico.
  • Public Engagement: Participate in public engagement efforts by assisting in the organization of public meetings, surveys, and data collection from stakeholders and the community.
  • Report Preparation: Prepare reports and presentations summarizing research findings, analysis results, and recommendations for transportation planning projects.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with our team of transportation planners, engineers, and urban designers to contribute to ongoing projects and gain valuable insights into the field.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in transportation planning, urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field, or a recent graduate
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software, such as Power BI,  ArcGIS , and statistical analysis tools (e.g., R or Python) a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for sustainable transportation solution

Beneficial Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with transportation planning principles
  • GIS Mapping: Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to create maps, visualize transportation data, and support spatial analysis for planning projects
  • Familiarity/proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
