Job Description

The British Airways Tech Delivery team is part of International Airlines Group (IAG), one of the world’s leading airline groups and owner of some of the biggest brands in the sky.

As a Business Analyst, you will be working with our Product teams in one or more of our domains within the BA Tech Delivery Team to bring agile change to life. We are doing this by role modelling and embedding agile ways of working and applying SAFe as an overarching umbrella within BA Tech Delivery. 

Purpose of the role  

You are responsible for bridging the gap between BA Tech and the business using data and other analytics to assess processes, determine requirements and deliver recommendations. 

You will engage with business leaders and users to understand how changes to process, products, services, software and hardware can improve efficiencies and add value. You must be able to articulate ideas but also balance them against what’s technologically feasible and financially and functionally reasonable. Depending on the role, you might work with other data sets to improve products, hardware, tools, software, services or processes. 

Accountabilities 

Working in partnership with BA Delivery and the business to: 

  • Use structured best practice methodologies understand the business needs, target benefits and priorities 

  • Create and manage their requirements workshop plan(s) and lead workshops to ensure objectives are achieved 

  • Capture and document the business requirements in a structure and format that enables BA Delivery (incl. 3rd party solution providers) to deliver solution(s) that will meet the business need. Support in user-story writing and build and maintenance of the team backlog. 

  • Collaborate with the product team(s) to detail stories with acceptance criteria and examples in the form of acceptance tests (Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD)).  

  • Support the Product Owner in preparation for Programme Increment (PI) planning events, update the team(s) backlog and support in backlog refinement and sprint planning. 

  • Support BA Delivery (incl. 3rd party solution providers) with designing the solution(s) 

  • Support the creation of test cases (technical and business) 

  • Consider both business needs and the BA Delivery Enterprise Architecture Strategy (including defined standards) when supporting BA Delivery with solution design. 

  • Manage the review and sign-off/approval of documented requirements, covering the following as a minimum input – business/customer, quality – defined business analysis/document standards, output – BA Delivery/solution provider 

  • Deliver on a number of projects, the breadth and complexity of which will vary depending on experience. 

  • Participate in team demos and retrospectives with their team(s) including the Iteration Retrospectives, with the aim of improving team processes and working practices.  

This role may require travel and working from multiple sites/locations. Willing and able to travel to participate in meetings, workshops, and other related activities 

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications  

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience 

Desired qualification 

  • Recognised Business Analysis qualifications (e.g. BCS Certification in Business Analysis) 

  • Recognised Agile qualifications 

  • Recognised process engineering qualifications 

Skills  

  • Strong workshop leader and facilitator 

  • Forming strong stakeholder relationships, with a proven ability of influencing, negotiating and persuading internally and externally  

  • Effective senior stakeholder management, balancing and finding compromises between opposing views and opinions 

  • Business partnering, working as a valued partner with senior stakeholders across a diverse operation, delivering a value-added service to business customers.  

  • Strong analytical approach to capturing business requirements, documenting them in a succinct manner    

  • Ability to recognise priorities and guide others towards the accomplishment of strategic business goals and objectives 

  • Embracing and managing both business and IT change as necessary to help shape future direction   

  • Dynamic, problem-solving approach coupled with the ability to create a positive working environment. 

  • Identifies and contributes to the continual improvement of analysis capability across the organisation 

  • Fluent written and spoken English 

Experience  

  • Demonstratable experience of successfully performing a Business Analysis role in Agile delivery settings, exposure to and involvement in SAFe Agile a distinct advantage. 

 

  • Experience of working in digital product and Product teams 

 

  • Demonstrable experience of process engineering and requirement documentation 

 

  • Experience of working in a business and technology delivery environment 

 

  • Experience of working with the following is highly desirable: 

  • Architecture frameworks 

  • Process mapping tools 

  • Agile and waterfall management tools  

 

  • Experience of operating across multiple countries and cultures is desirable.
