Job Description
The House of Commons’ Digital Services and Real Property is currently looking to staff the Security Systems Technician position. This position is full time on site five (5) days per week.
As a Security Systems Technician, you will work in a product-centric environment as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and installing electronic physical security and connected systems across the Parliamentary Precinct. Your work will support a wide range of technologies, including video, audio, security, control, and other integrated building systems.
You will provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 client support, responding to service requests, performing preventative maintenance, and resolving urgent technical issues to ensure systems remain reliable and operational. You will also contribute to the implementation, testing, documentation, and ongoing support of enterprise-level building and security solutions
In this role, you will work closely with partners such as the Senate, the House of Commons’ Sergeant-at-Arms, and the Parliamentary Protective Service, supporting both day-to-day operations and large-scale renovation projects, including work in heritage buildings. You will follow established standards and best practices while contributing to continuous improvement of systems and support processes
This role requires flexibility to work outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, shifts, and on-call as system support, maintenance and upgrades are often performed outside of business operations.

Qualifications
Education :
- A post secondary degree or diploma in Engineering Technician or related field or an acceptable combination of education and or relevant experience and training.
Experiences:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing technical support and problem-solving for a wide range of integrated, enterprise-level electronic security systems and equipment, including diagnosing and resolving technical issues;
- Experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance on electronic security systems, such as perimeter intrusion detection, access control video management and analytics systems, and high-density videowall displays;
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience implementing and administering of enterprise-level physical security platforms such as Genetec, Milestone, Lenel, or Software House;
- Knowledge of common communication protocols and security hardware standards, such as OSDP, RS485, ONVIF, and SIP, as well as various credential and card formats;
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and architectural drawings, security elevations, and system schematics, as well as generating technical plans and diagrams to document system modifications or new installations;
- Experience supporting small to medium sized security installation projects, including defining requirements, reviewing proposals, coordinating with other trades, commissioning, and as-builts;
- Experience providing high-level client service, including managing service requests through an incident tracking system while maintaining clear status updates, and completing detailed documentation for resolution and closeout.
Assets:
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting physical security-related Internet of Things (IoT) systems and network-connected environmental sensors;
- Experience developing and delivering informal training sessions for non-technical users and clients;
- Experience managing the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process for specialized security components and maintaining critical spare parts inventories;
- Knowledge of electronics principles and equipment installation practices, including equipment rack integration, management of thermal loads, and high-density cable management;
- Certification and/or manufacture training in configuring and programming security systems and related equipment (e.g., Lenel, Genetec, Milestone, TRAKA, Bosch, Jupiter, Raritan);
- Knowledge of network computing, including configuration of routers and switches, IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6), and MAC concepts within an electronic physical security environment.
