Job Description

Job Summary:

At the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University (CEPR) our mission is to transform education through the power of quality evidence. We believe that if we want to dramatically improve educational outcomes for all children, evidence must play a critical role. 

The MQI Coaching Project Manager will be a key member of the Mathematics Teaching and Teacher Learning (MTTL) team at CEPR. In particular, the MQI Coaching Project Manager will lead the fee-for-service contracts work across multiple sites and will also provide support for some grant-funded research project work.  

MQI Coaching provides math-specific professional development to teachers and coaches to help improve mathematics instruction. This role is situated on a team (MTTL) focused on improving mathematics teaching and teacher learning with faculty lead Dr. Heather Hill, as well as another Project Manager, a Project Coordinator, a Senior Manager, and a Director. This Project Manager’s primary responsibilities will include management and oversight of the MTTL team’s fee-for-service partners and associated work. They will supervise a cohort of MQI Coaching e-coaches and collaborate with district partners to customize MQI Coaching coach training needs for each client. They will be expected to do so with a high level of independence and autonomy, with training and support from the MTTL Senior Manager. This person will be essential to the growth of the larger team, both in our ability to develop innovative content, scale up newly developing coaching models, and secure new partnerships.


Job-Specific Responsibilities:

Lead Oversight and Development of MQI E-Coaching (35%)

  • Manage all MQI E-Coaching services, serving as primary liaison between the MQI Coaching team and the fee-for-service district

  • Lead oversight of MQI coaching conversations to inform content for coach support

  • Maintain infrastructures for tracking coaching progress and expenses 

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop a team of instructional coaches 

Create, Prepare and Conduct Coach Trainings (35%)

  • Plan, develop, and implement trainings for teachers, coaches, and administrators on key elements of successful mathematics coaching and/or mathematics teaching

  • Maintain MQI Coaching suite of materials with updated formatting and iterations

  • MQI Coaching Coach Trainings: 

    • Lead facilitate MQI Coaching Institutes (virtual or in person), with a co-facilitator

    • Customize and provide coach training for participating districts and coaches

    • Develop new and customized content for coaches and deliver ongoing coach support training 

Manage expansion and further development of MQI Coaching (10%)

  • Collaborate with other members of the MTTL team (Senior Manager, Director) and district stakeholders to create additional coach training materials to align with further development and expansion of MQI coaching models

  • Co-facilitate the newly created MQI Coaching with the IMplementation Reflection Tool coach training and support the Senior Manager with continued development of related materials

  • In conjunction with the Senior Manager and Director, contribute to the development of costing structures for new and updated service offerings.

  • Track MQI Coaching related expenses

Communications and Outreach: (10%)

  • Maintain MQI Coaching professional networks (Research Partnership for Professional Learning (RPPL), RIVET Education, and state department credentials) by facilitating renewal applications and ensuring credentials for membership and certification are up to date

  • Develop marketing and outreach strategy in collaboration with the project Director and CEPR communications specialist 

  • Facilitate all email and social media campaigns with the Project Coordinator

  • Facilitate new client calls, crafting quotes, and managing contracts & amendments, in collaboration with project Director 

  • Maintain and update Quickbase records with coach, teacher, and participant information

Manage video platforms and databases across projects (10%)

  • Oversee ongoing maintenance and updates of the video library platform, communicating with IT and Senior Project Manager as needed
  • Process and edit video clips as needed for MQI Coaching project needs

  • Maintain records of clip related information (e.g., teacher consent, pseudonyms, master scores, videos, transcripts) in QuickBase and Panopto

This position is grant funded for one year from date of hire with a possibility of extension based on funding and the Center's needs.  

 

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience coaching mathematics teachers and classroom teaching, and/or working in a research-practice partnership and classroom teaching. 
  • Demonstrated experience with computer software and hardware, including MS Office, PowerPoint, & Excel required.
  • Expected to travel up to 20% of time. Also, must be able to work flexible schedule to deliver trainings before or after regular work hours.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Must be very attentive to detail and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple partners and cross-function teams
  • Experience facilitating adult learning preferred.
  • Experience with Illustrative Mathematics IM Math and/or other high-quality instructional materials for K – 12 mathematics preferred
  • Experience with MQI Coaching and/or M-Powering Teachers Coaching preferred. 
  • Degree in mathematics, or hard science and/or education preferred. 
  • Prefer experience working with mathematics teachers and/or coaches in a school or research setting. 
  • Experience with Quickbase, Panopto, Qualtrics, Canvas, video editing software, Zoom, and project management platforms (e.g. Asana) are pluses. 
  • Masters degree preferred as is experience working in a social science research setting at either a University or Research firm.

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that the duties and responsibilities can effectively be performed fully remotely at a non-Harvard location. Employees in fully remote positions must work all scheduled hours in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. At the discretion of the department, fully remote employees may occasionally be required on site at a Harvard location. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
