Hamilton City Libraries is a business unit of the Community Services group. There are seven library sites within the city; Central Library is located in Garden Place in the CBD and our community libraries are located at Chartwell, Dinsdale, Hillcrest, Glenview, St Andrews and Rototuna.

We are now on the hunt for a Ringa Hapai Service Representative to join our Libraries team.

Our Ringa Hapaai Service Representatives do a bit of everything, and we love seeing our team members utilise the unique skills they have.  Although we LOVE books, our spaces are so much more than this!

This role sits onsite at Hillcrest Library at the Hamilton Gardens, we encourage growth, autonomy and have a great supportive culture. 

What will I be doing day to day?

  • You'll be doing core library support work: issuing books, searching for titles, returns and shelving.
  • ​You could also be supporting the public with using our technology for learning, job hunting, connecting with family or sustaining curiosity.
  • ​Running great programmes and events for the community – from story-time/wriggle and rhyme, through to stop motion, coding classes and supporting our Auaha Maker space librarians in the Auaha Maker space.
  • ​Connecting people with resources such as hard-to-find information, genealogy queries, interest groups or their heritage.
  • ​Providing great suggestions for customer queries to what to read next!

The hours for this role will be 14 hours per week. Thursday 1.30-5.30, Friday 11.00-5.30, Saturday 9.00-1.00, one in eight Sundays. 

Qualifications

  • Have experience and are confident within a customer service environment - you will be dealing with a diverse range of customers within our community! (If you have a history within a library environment, this is a bonus).
  • ​Are passionate about or would love to start running children’s programmes and leading events.
  • ​Are a positive person that customers warm to and have a natural ability to create a welcoming inclusive environment no   matter the circumstances.
  • ​Can confidently use a computer and handle cash/ transactions.

The rate for this role starts at $28.95 per hour.
