He angituutanga: The opportunity 

We’re looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer to join our Regulatory Services Unit on a 1-year fixed-term contract to cover parental leave. This is a fast-paced and varied role that offers a great mix of office-based and field work, including visiting food premises and responding to public health concerns. You’ll work with a diverse range of customers and businesses across Hamilton, helping to protect public health and ensure food safety.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Verifying food control plans at fixed premises, mobile food businesses, and events.
  • Supporting food businesses with registration and compliance under the Food Act 2014.
  • Responding to public health and food safety complaints, and investigating statutory nuisances under the Health Act 1956.
  • Carrying out enforcement as a warranted Food Safety Officer and Environmental Health Officer.

 

Qualifications

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience

  • A qualification as defined in the Environmental Health Officers Qualifications Regulations 1993
  • Working knowledge of legislation relevant to environmental health professionals
  • Experience in environmental health and/or food business verification is highly desirable
  • A full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in building relationships and supporting compliance through effective engagement

 

Note: While the preference is for a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer, we’re also open to applicants who meet the requirements to be recognised as a verifier under the Food Act 2014. Salary will reflect the applicant’s qualifications and experience.

The salary for this role starting salary is $90,000 with flexibility to negotiate depending on qualifications and experience.
