Job Description

He angituutanga: The opportunity 

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Hamilton’s multi-model transport system. You will provide senior-level technical and project leadership, working collaboratively with central and local government partners, internal directorates, and iwi partners. Your strategic thinking and open-minded approach will help develop integrated land use and transport solutions, ensuring Hamilton’s transport system meets future needs.

Your key focus will be in transport and strategic planning across multiple projects to achieve outcomes for Hamilton City based on evidence-based evaluation and decision-making. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively and support Principal and Technical Director level staff within the Plan, Strategy and Programming Directorate.
  • Provide leadership and support to deliver the Metro Spatial Plan (MSP) and achieve the implementation of the MSP Transport Programme.
  • Develop compelling evidence to inform decision-making at a staff and elected member level via effective communication and report writing.
  • Support senior staff in bringing together internal specialists to scope, prioritise, and deliver new projects and programmes at a city and regional level.
  • Deliver / support technical presentations at Council committees and other forums including public consultation exercises and internal staff information sessions.
  • Work independently where appropriate and represent Council at a variety of local, regional and national forums.
  • Lead and/or contribute to project priority and evaluation and alignment to local strategic objectives conversations in funding and financial planning processes.

Qualifications

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience

  • At least 5 years in transport planning, urban planning, or a related field.
  • Tertiary qualification in transportation planning, urban planning, strategic development, or similar.
  • Strong capabilities in integrated transport planning, strategy and policy development, stakeholder management, and project delivery.
  • Confidence in communication and willingness to develop strong advocacy skills.
  • Emerging leadership skills with the ability to articulate a vision for Hamilton and the Waikato.
  • Comfortable with data analysis, GIS applications, and Microsoft Office.
