Reporting to the Manager, Compensation, Benefits & HR Support Services, you will join a progressive, dynamic and collaborative team of Human Resources professionals. Human Resources supports a large employee base of over 5,000 employees and six unions across three hospital sites and off-site programs within the Halton Region. 

This is what you’ll be doing:

  • Responsible for supporting employees and programs ensuring compliance with hospital policies, collective agreements and benefit/pension plans as well as accuracy of entry into the applicable HR systems
  • Act as the primary contact for assigned client groups, responding to inquiries from clients including employees and departments on issues related to new hire onboarding, benefits, compensation, internal transfers, and departing the organization.
  • The Associate may assist with other aspects of transactional activities as required based on volumes, including review of new hire packages to ensure compliance with policies, regulations and/or professional college requirements and verification of eligibility to work in Canada
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of entering new employees into the HR system, ensuring accurate benefit coverage, pension and/or other deductions, and flow to other systems or areas such as security, parking, ICT and payroll.
  • Provide advice and guidance on Halton Healthcare program information for both managers and employees on a variety of topics such as benefit plans, pension administration, leaves of absence, employee perks/services, and other human resources policies and procedures.
  • Process employee transfers ensuring compliance with policies and collective agreements escalating to Labour Relations as required
  • Identifies seniority, service, vacation, pay and benefit impacts based on employee, role and applicable collective agreement or policies related to internal transfers
  • Enrolls and terminates employees in the applicable benefit and pension plans and in the applicable systems as required noting compliance with the programs
  • Supports programs and employees with questions as they relate to statutory leaves and other leaves permitted under our policies or collective agreements
  • Escalates complex issues to specialty areas of HR after completing a full review of the issue and documenting what is understood to be next steps
  • Process change documents such as employee demographics, benefit enrolment and transfers ensuring appropriate documentation and accuracy of entry
  • Assists with HR related tasks as assigned such as audits, data cleanup, communications, and testing for system changes
  • Responsible for data entry accuracy and completion of timely audits leveraging reporting and data analysis
  • Assists in preparing, and periodically reviewing, standard operating procedures processes for HR Support Services and provides input into associated policies
  • Prepares and presents training materials to clients associated with HR Support Services
  • Supports reporting requests, as required
  • Work closely with payroll to support accurate pay processing related to HR transactions
  • Meets all service level agreements and key performance indicators
  • Supports projects as assigned including continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

 

  • An undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources or associated field of study
  • CHRP or similar designation preferred
  • A minimum 3-5 years of experience in human resources or associated field
  • Strong knowledge of HR Operations including employee life cycle transactions (recruitment to retirement), compensation and benefits, HRIS, collective agreement and relevant legislation and regulations
  • Technical knowledge and experience including an HRIS, Microsoft Office including advanced excel and data management required.
  • Experience with HR system implementations, enhancements an asset.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability and problem solving skills
  • Ability to de-escalate and manage difficult discussions with clients
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and professionally in a high performing environment
  • Strict adherence to code of conduct, ethics, confidentiality and privacy as it relates to personal information
  • Experience or educational background related to customer service
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation including Occupational Health and Safety ActEmployment Standards Act, and Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Previous experience working in Human Resources in public sector or a healthcare environment would be an asset

Salary Range:   $67,382 - $84,254 annually
