Human Rights Expert

  • Full-time

Job Description

WHAT YOU’LL DO

At H&M Group, sustainability is the essence of our business. We are dedicated to upholding human rights across our entire value chain and embedding responsible business conduct into everything we do. We’re seeking a passionate and experienced Human Rights Expert to join our Global Social Impact Team within the Sustainability department to elevate and operationalize our human rights due diligence practices.

This pivotal role is perfect for someone who excels at the crossroads of sustainability, governance, and risk — a strategic visionary and a hands-on executor who can transform human rights frameworks into actionable business strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD): Implement, monitor, and continuously enhance our human rights due diligence processes in alignment with the UN Guiding Principles (UNGP) and OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
  • Risk & Impact Assessments: Conduct comprehensive human rights risk assessments and integrate findings into enterprise-wide risk management, GRC, and ERM systems.
  • Compliance & Policy Development: Ensure compliance with current and emerging regulations including CSRD, CSDDD, and other relevant legislation, translating legal requirements into practical internal practices.
  • Monitoring: Provide tools and support to strengthen internal controls related to human rights and social impact, collaborating with Legal, Sustainability Governance and Corporate Governance.
  • Measurement & Targets: Develop and refine KPIs, targets, and tracking mechanisms for human rights performance, facilitating transparent reporting.
  • Internal Engagement & Capacity Building: Collaborate with cross-functional teams across our organization to align on human rights objectives. Promote internal awareness and training on human rights, risk, and compliance issues across functions.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You will collaborate closely with the Global Social Impact Team within the Sustainability department, as well as cross-functional teams across the organization. Your role will involve significant coordination with Legal, Sustainability Governance and Corporate Governance to ensure the successful implementation of human rights due diligence practices.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in human rights, sustainability, or compliance – ideally in a complex global organization or consultancy setting.
  • Deep understanding of human rights due diligence, risk management frameworks, GRC, ERM systems, and internal control functions.
  • Knowledge of key regulatory frameworks including CSRD, CSDDD, and best-practice standards and certifications like the UNGP, OECD Guidelines, GRI, ISO 14001.
  • Experience in developing and implementing measurement frameworks, KPIs, and impact tracking tools.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint for analysis, reporting, and communication.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in human rights, law, sustainability, political science, business, or a related field.
  • A structured thinker and strong organizer who can manage complexity with clarity.
  • Proven collaborator with excellent stakeholder management skills across all levels of the business.
  • A self-starter, driven doer, and solution-oriented professional.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – with the ability to translate complex frameworks into clear, actionable steps.
  • Preferably with consultancy experience, bringing both strategic insight and implementation skills.
