Job Description

The Unit Lead Engineer for Data Governance and Solution is responsible for architecting and institutionalizing modern data governance policies, and for leading the execution of a range of data governance activities to manage and protect the company’s data assets in the enterprise data office. The role will be accountable to lead and provide direction in the following areas for Enterprise data: data governance strategy and operations, data standards development and management, data catalog capability, data quality management, data policy, and compliance. 

We require a key cross-functional change agent, to drive data maturity, scalability, and competency by providing thought leadership and business influence. This individual should be a seasoned professional with shown experience in data governance and leading/managing change with focus on data management and data adoption

Data Governance Strategy: 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy aligned with the organization's business objectives. 

  • Define and communicate the vision, goals, and benefits of data governance to stakeholders

Policy and Standards Development: 

  • Create and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and security of data. 

  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to align data governance practices with regulatory requirements. 

Data Stewardship: 

  • Identify and appoint data stewards across different business units to take ownership of data quality and integrity within their respective domains. 

  • Provide guidance and support to data stewards in executing their responsibilities. 

Metadata Management: 

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a centralized metadata repository, documenting data definitions, lineage, and usage. 

  • Ensure metadata is accessible to relevant stakeholders to facilitate data understanding and decision-making. 

Data Quality Assurance: 

  • Implement processes and tools to monitor and assess the quality of data across the organization. 
  • Work with business units to establish data quality metrics and benchmarks. 

Data Privacy and Security: 

  • Collaborate with the cybersecurity and privacy teams to establish and enforce data security and privacy controls. 

  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and standards. 

Change Management: 

  • Lead change management initiatives to embed data governance practices into daily operations across the wider organization 

  • Foster a data-driven culture by promoting the value of high-quality, well-managed data. 

Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Work closely with IT, business units, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and challenges. 

  • Communicate the benefits and requirements of data governance to diverse audiences, tailoring messages as needed. 

Training and Awareness: 

  • Develop and deliver training programs to build awareness and competency in data governance principles. 

  • Provide ongoing support and education to ensure continuous improvement in data management practices. 

Qualifications

  • A Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer science,  Engineering, Information Technology or Data Management is required

  • 10+ years of data and analytics leadership experience

  • Open to candidates from any industry, with a preference for those having prior experience in retail, brands, or e-commerce

  • Demonstrated ability working in data-centric roles involving data management, data strategy, data governance, data architecture, or related area in a global organization 

  • Advanced knowledge of data governance best practices, business, and technology issues related to the management of enterprise information assets, and approaches related to data

  • Proven experience developing data ownership and stewardship in a large, complex organization

  • Understanding of data needs for analysis and business performance management

  • Possess a blend of experience in Data governance with information practice and business processes

  • Previous experience managing large programs and budgets preferred

  • Background in a global working environment and building relationships across cultures

  • Experience in developing Data governance/information management framework, policies, standards, and guidelines

  • Experience working in globally matrixed organizations. A demonstrated ability to unify and lead teams within a matrixed organization

  • Experience in leading large teams at scale in complex organizations with the ability to influence and drive change organization wide

  • Established partnerships with top academic institutions or industry/domain leaders

  • Referenceable leadership, management, or key influencer experiences required

  • An individual who embodies and exemplifies the core values of H&M in both their actions and communication
