Job Description

Position Overview:

The Director of Planning will lead the strategic direction, execution, and continuous improvement of integrated planning processes – spanning demand planning, supply (inventory) planning, and the full Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) cycle – to support scalable growth and efficient operations. This role is critical to driving supply chain excellence, enabling cross-functional alignment, and providing clear visibility into inventory health and business performance.  As a player/coach, this role balances strategic leadership with hands-on execution. The ideal candidate is a proactive, collaborative leader with deep expertise across the end-to-end planning function, a strong analytical mindset, and a demonstrated ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

S&OP Leadership

  • Own, and continuously improve the end-to-end Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) cycle, ensuring alignment across Demand, Supply, Finance, Commercial teams, Marketing, Logistics and Procurement.
  • Facilitate the monthly S&OP process including pre-S&OP meetings, executive S&OP review, and all supporting workstreams (demand review, supply review, financial reconciliation).
  • Run and execute Demand Planning (DP), Production/Master Planning (MPS), Distribution Planning (DRP) and Material Planning (MRP)
  • Drive the creation of integrated business plans that balance customer service, inventory investment, and financial targets.
  • Develop and maintain S&OP metrics and KPIs to monitor the effectiveness of the planning process
  • Ensure compliance with and reinforcement of the rules outlined in the S&OP and S&OE Playbook
  • Lead scenario planning and what-if analysis to prepare the business for potential disruptions, demand swings, or capacity constraints.
  • Champion S&OP maturity improvements, evolving the process from operational coordination to an integrated business management tool.
  • Ensure that the S&OP process maintains its routine and cadence, securing the active participation of all cross-functional areas to drive alignment, a single plan, and added value for the organization.
  • Advance the S&OP framework by leveraging best practices, emerging trends, external data streams, and technology to establish a continuous improvement mindset

 

Supply & Inventory Planning

  • Lead the development and execution of inventory and supply strategies to meet service level targets and financial (working capital) objectives.
  • Lead supply allocations and inventory OOS risk management for the company.
  • Oversee the supply planning process and inputs into S&OP, including optimizing Amazon FG inventory.
  • Partner with Finance and Sales to lead SKU rationalization across the company.
  • Direct the coffee planning process with key strategic co-manufacturing partner, driving alignment and execution.
  • Lead weekly co-man attainment metrics process and report out results; align data with co-man team.
  • Lead the At Risk resolution process, partnering with channel leaders to find creative solutions to reduce write-offs.
  • Oversee long-range working capital, supply, and capacity planning initiatives.
  • Lead initiatives such as inventory branding transitions and other cross-functional planning projects.
  • Lead the search for and implementation of a supply planning system.

 

Demand Planning

  • Own and lead the demand planning process, developing statistical and consensus-based forecasts across all channels (eCommerce, retail, DTC) and SKUs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Finance to integrate market intelligence, promotional plans, new product launches, and customer insights into the demand plan.
  • Drive forecast accuracy improvement initiatives, establishing KPIs (MAPE, bias) and root cause analysis processes to continuously improve planning quality.
  • Lead new product introduction demand planning, partnering with Marketing and Sales to develop launch forecasts and lifecycle management plans.

 

Operational Execution & Oversight

  • Monitor critical KPIs, trend reports, and inventory health to inform decision-making and mitigate risks.
  • Oversee the team’s development and communication of production plans for existing items, new product introductions, and promotional activity.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (Fulfillment, Procurement, Sourcing, Sales, and Marketing) to drive process improvement.

 

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing planning team encompassing demand planning, supply planning, and S&OP functions.
  • Manage and mentor planning staff, offering strategic guidance, career development, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative culture that drives results and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and influence other departments to guarantee engagement, synchronization, and accountability within the S&OP process

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration or related field.  Supplemented by a MBA or S&OP courses/trainings. 
  • 10+ years of experience in S&OP and/or planning and 8+ years in leadership roles. 
  • 5+ years of FMCG experience. 
  • Proven expertise in demand planning methodologies, statistical forecasting, and consensus-based planning processes.
  • Experience with demand and supply planning software.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, leading, or significantly improving an S&OP process.
  • Strong track record in supply chain planning, systems implementation, and cross-functional leadership.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with a business-oriented mindset.
  • Comfortable influencing across all levels and leading through ambiguity and complexity.
  • Demonstrated ability working with co-manufacturers, preferably in the food & beverage industry.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness, strong organizational & communication skills, and the ability to achieve results in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and innovate.

Additional Information

Annual base salary gross: $150,000 – 175,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position.  The base salary is one component of the total compensation package for employees.
