Job Description

Canam currently has an opportunity for a permanent full-time, professional Truck Driver at our steel joist and deck manufacturing plant in Calgary.
 

As a member of our team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Comply with all applicable health and safety principles, procedures, policies and Canam safety program
  • Shunting fully loaded and empty flat deck Trailers 
  • Move materials to staging areas or to transportation vehicles
  • Stack and secure materials in designated areas
  • Accept items by confirming details and specifications
  • Operate appropriate equipment for lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, handling or transporting heavy or awkward loads
  • Work outdoors within the elements, and varied weather conditions
  • Unload and move items to storage locations
  • Maintain Canam shunt truck consumables, trailer loading straps and trailer parking spaces using applicable software
  • Move trailers and shunt truck to local vehicle wash service centres, when needed

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you possess:

  • A valid AZ/Class one (1) driver's license
  • Clean driver's abstract
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Overhead crane and forklift experience in the steel industry
  • Proficient English speaking, reading and writing skills
  • Ability to safely lift up to 70 lb and good physical condition (ex. can walk/stand/lift/carry/bend/reach/kneel for extended periods of time)
  • Punctuality, maturity, reliability, and strong work ethic
  • Two to three years related experience and/or training in a similar position or in the manufacturing industry
  • Ability to work shift work; previous experience working shifts and weekends would be an asset
  • Ability to use GPS trailer tracking software using a handheld device or computer (in-house training available)

Additional Information

Work environment
Working safely is a condition of employment at Canam. Canam is a steel manufacturing environment with constant exposure to high levels of noise, dust, dirt and extreme temperatures (hot in summer and cold in winter). Safety PPE (personal protective equipment) must be worn while onsite (steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses, etc.) Daily interaction with production personnel, managers and other team members.

This position requires you to work rotating day/evening shifts. Availability to work overtime is an asset.

Remuneration
Compensation includes (but not limited to) base pay; $27.00/hour for the first 400 hours and then $30.00/hour thereafter (based on the Collective Agreement), benefits effective first day of employment, profit sharing, and pension plan.
