About the Opportunity
The Senior Taxation Accountant oversees and ensures Griffith University’s compliance with taxation obligations. The role involves providing expert tax advice, managing and remediating tax risks, and developing and improving tax policies, systems, and processes. The position also resolves complex tax matters and works collaboratively with stakeholders, including auditors, on strategic and operational finance, accounting, tax, and treasury issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, manage and remediate taxation risks, including underpayments, overpayments and historical issues.
- Provide practical tax advice based on current legislation (FBT, GST, superannuation, income tax), ATO guidance and case law.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, assess impacts, and implement process or policy updates to ensure compliance.
- Prepare and maintain robust documentation supporting tax positions, calculations and compliance decisions.
- Support governance, assurance and audit activities, including risk assessments and compliance reporting.
- Ensure end‑to‑end compliance across all University taxation obligations, including review of monthly transactions.
- Deliver tax guidance and training to Finance, Service Centre and University stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of finance governance, processes and controls.
- Support the tax team during peak periods, including year‑end activities.
About you
- The occupant of this position will hold relevant tertiary qualifications or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Membership of a professional accredited accounting or tax organisation is compulsory.
- Masters of Tax preferred.
- Familiarity with employment taxes would be advantageous.

Salary Range
HEW 8 – Base FTE salary range - $113,713.03 - $127,923.91 + 17% super. Full package range - $133,044.25 - $149,670.98.
